OK so I picked up a 03 GTX DI for $500. The current owner told me the previous owner "replaced" the 03 engine with an 2010 engine. I know this is not possible since Seadoo stopped making the 951 well before then.

So the current owner was running the ski, and something happened to the oil pump. I bought it, and found the oil pump cable has broken, and it prevented the engine from getting the proper oil.

The engine is locked up, or the jet pump is, as I can not turn the PTO.

So it looks like I need to rebuild the engine. I have never done this, but I am fortunate to have a local 2 stroke company that our Seadoo shop uses in my backyard. I have talked to him, and he has offered to shadow me, and provide advise as needed.

I have thought about using a re-builder, but what would I learn....

So I want to know what you would recommend for parts to rebuild the engine, and more importantly, WHY.

When oil pump cables break the pump goes full open pumping the max amount of oil.
I would pull the pump and see if the engine will turn over by hand.

Knowing I needed to pull the pump and drive shaft for easier engine removal, I pulled it this afternoon. Well the pump is good. Both pistons will move about 1/8" when I turn the crank. I pulled the rave valves hoping to get a better look before I pull the exhaust, injectors, Throttle Body, etc and the engine. I didn't see much through the rave slot.

If I had an E-Torx, I would have pulled the head. Oh Well off to Amazon to get an E-Torx set, as it looks like an E10 or E12
socket.
jhjesse - good to know about the oil pump. Oh and the previous owner has blue/green oil in the tank... One more thing to the list...

951's are very stressed engines because they make so much power for their size. You need to first decide if you are going to keep this ski for a long time or just a season and sell it.

If I were going to keep it for years and rebuild it myself.....
1. New OEM Crank.
2. New OEM pistons and rings.
3. New OEM Seals and probably WSM gasket kit but don't use their seals.
4. Rebuild balancer with OEM seals and bearings.
5. OEM reeds.
6. Send cylinder to good shop like Group K or full bore to have new pistons fitted.

If I couldn't do the rebuild myself send it to Fullbore online or SES but be prepared to wait.

If I were selling it in a season then new rebuilt engine from SBT.

Outside of using Genuine Seadoo parts, what are brands that are good, and what should I RUN from?? WSM looks like the gaskets are OK, but nothing else??
