Rear Hatch/Lid Release Cable

For those of you that have replaced the release hatch cable that unlocks our rear sundeck, I have a question for you.

Did it look like the T-handle could be replaced on those? Or if the t-handle were to break, would one need to replace that entire cable assembly?

Long story short, I needed to get access to an item under the engine cover the week before xmas. And the boat is stored in a very cold place. The rear deck seemed frozen, and of course the t-handle split in half. Half is still attached, so there is a chance I could use some epoxy to repair it in the spring. But I am planning for the worst. If it can be found, that cable assembly lists for $100. I have found new old stock on Ebay for $69 shipped. That may be my best bet if it cannot be repaired.

All of this just to recover a $10 pair of goggles for a trip to Mexico. GRRRRR!!!

Thanks guys!

nope. you have to replace the whole thing. it comes out from the front, so after you disconnect the cable at the latch assy, tie a string to it and pull it thru the gunwale. reverse order when installing.

there should be a large hole above the latch pin in the rear hatch, under the deck cushion. that is used when the cable snaps or the latch defects, unscrew the nut/pin and open the engine hatch...

it always annoyed me to have to go to the front, open the storage cover, and pull the release in order to open the engine hatch when i was working on the boat. I did a mod that uses the ski pylon as a release to open the rear hatch. we don`t pull tubes or skiers, so that is a decent incognito mod to open the lid... :D

Very nice idea! All we use the pylon for is a mounting point for my catfish rod holders. We don't tow skiers, and use the tower for everything else.

I may have to look into that. Thanks for the tips!
