All day friday I watched the clock until time to get off work and work on the 96 GTX's I got. Well I had one of them running a couple of days prior and it seemed to be running kinda rough. The compression was good in both cylinders but I felt like there could be somthing going on. Me being me I decided to take the head off just to have a look see at the cylinders and pistons. I wanted to make sure there were not any grooves in the walls or anything like that. So I start takes the 12 bolts out that hold the cylinder head on. Most of them came out pretty easy but I could tell they had never been out before because some were seized. I am sure yall can tell where this is going now. Yup, I broke a bolt off and bent another one:banghead:!!! So now I HAVE to take the cylinder off to try to get the rest of the bolt out. Luckily it didnt break even and I think there is about 1/2 - 3/4" sticking out. I am not sure why I just cant leave well enough alone. I will post a pic this evening if I have time. Does anyone know of the best way to go about extracting it???

Get some PB Blaster (better than WD40) down on the threads, and give it 20 or 30 minutes to do it's thing. Then grab whats left with some vice-grips, and it should turn out.

As stated above but if its really stuck heat the bolt with a torch and while the bolt is still hot spray it again. Dont spray the open flame!
Took me 3 or 4 times of doing this before i got mine out.

So I got the cover off just to find 2 screws broke!!! Now I have to get the head off with the screws still screwed into the rear cylinder. I have them soaking in PB Blaster right now but the right side of the head is not budgeing. Any more ideas???

Well if I can ever get the head loose their is enough to get hold of with sone vise grips. It's been soaking for 2 days now so I am hoping things will loosen up. I did get the other ski running today though!!! Turns out the mpem was bad so now I need another one.

Many times heat will do this, but the trick is the heating and cooling cycle - the bad part is fuel vapors, be certain you have the hull ventilated well while doing this, remove glove box liner and/or use a small fan to help out.

Well I have been screwing with those bolts one and off for a couple weekends. Still cannot get anything to move. I tried heating the head and cylinder up but there is alot of flammable stuff on the head from where it's been soaking. Wiped it off best I could and still shot a flame across the head!!! I tried vise grips on the one that is sticking of but they cannot grip it good enough. I am running out of ideas here. I know they could probably be drilled out but I don't have the tools for it. It sucks to because I refuse to take it to a Seadoo dealer in the area. What to do what to do????

is there anything wrong with the cylinder/sleeve itself? if so, then your best to buy one from ebay, because it'll cost atleast 50 buks at machine shop for them to remove those studs.

BTW...you still have the 97gtx mpem, or did you get it to work? If you wanna sell it, contact this guy...Ben 951-897-1016

do you know anyone that can weld a head back on the bolt?? worked for me more than once. just need a buddy that can weld.

Well I give up on these things. I am taking in to a machine shop first thing monday morning. I took it by there a couple days ago and they were pretty sure they could get them out.... Lets hope so!

Try some stud removers. And bomb lube is better then pb blaster. Heat it up and use a stud remover with a ratchet.

Bmed...I'll help you get that out if you get to Wilmington to get that MPEM. It'll take some finesse but you buy a 6 pack and we'll get it out.

Thanks for the offer but I ended up taking it to a machine shop in Washington NC, real nice guys and it wasnt overly expensive. Though a case would have been cheaper, haha. I am still planning on getting that MPEM from you as long as you still have it.
