Ok, I have been picking away at this for a bit, in between going on vacation for a week (Key West is awesome this time of year)!!!!
Anyway....
I have a couple of questions....... should I turn the engine over with the starter to prime the oil pump for a bit prior to starting?
Another question is can I run this thing without the jet pump installed? No driveshaft etc... just the PTO on the motor side installed?

Thanks......
hopefully this baby will fire up......LOL

I used the starter to prime my lines, don't run it continually, as the starter will get hot. 15-20 second bursts is what I did.
I also did not have the driveshaft installed, didn't seem to harm anything

I've run mine for short time w/ no driveline in it. Don't see what it could hurt.

Now, what I need is a few more people telling me how nice Florida is this time of year. LOL

Really no need to prime the oil pump with the starter. A lot of added starter wear thats not necessary IMO. If the engine was rebuilt, it should have an ounce +/- of injection oil added to the case halves when assembled, & plenty of oil on the other critical areas. If it was me, I would bleed the pump, & start it up. Once running you can manually turn your pump wide open & the oil will move through the injection lines pretty quickly.

I also run my engines with no drive line, no need to add the friction on the carbon seal & extra drive shaft/prop noise. Well, except with the 4-tec. that engine has to have the driveshaft installed or engine oil comes dumping out.......

Ok that sounds good....
What exactly is the procedure to bleed the pump? I think I recall a 7mm bolt that opens a vent on the pump.....
But when should I open it? Just open it while I am cranking it over?
And as always thanks for the replies....

The nut on the pump just bleeds the pump, open it until there is no more air in the supply line.

Whoever rebuilt your engine should have sent some break-in oil if not just use your regular API-TC injector oil, mix it with you first tank of gas, about 50:1, after that you should be good to go.

BTW, maybe I'm old school, but I bleed the injector oil lines, you can start the ski briefly with the pump all the way open, I prefer to use the starter, if you have replaced the oil lines with Tygon you can see the oil flow to the injectors.

Here is what I do. Cap full of oil in the spark plugs holes, a cap full down each carb. Start up the ski, and grab the arm of the oil pump and turn it so it pumps full speed. Should take about 20-30 seconds that way. Wayyy easier and you wont chance burning up your starter.

Ok..... a bit of an update......
I put the battery in..... reinstalled the MPEM with new lanyard...... got 2 beeps..... heard fuel pump......
cranked over for about 20 sec.... I stopped..... cranked over for another 20-30 seconds and it fired and died.....
So I went to the throttle and cracked it a bit, and it starts up..... I shut it right down because I did not have any water going to it.....
I don't know how bad that is.....But should I need to hit the throttle in order for it to fire??
I do have a question.... what holds on the pto.... it is threaded, and when it started it spun off..... so does the driveshaft hold it tight, or is there something I need to do....
It seemed to run ok.... I only ran it for a few seconds because of the lack of water, I will try again with the hose hooked up most likely on Sunday....
Thanks in advance.....

The Pto just threads on, use a wrench to snug it up. The drive shaft will keep it tight once you run it in the water.

Its funny I did the same thing, that sucker spun around the bottom of the hull like crazy.

Oops, Yes that is correct, NO PREMIX IN A RFI or DI ski, sorry I gave bad advice. Sorry

Lou, You get a free pass IMO.
He never said what engine or ski it was & I never looked at his profile either.
I was on the same page as you until post #9..... ;)

Yea sorry.... I negleceted to say it was an injected ski.......
Thanks for the replies.....
Is it ok to run the ski with water on without the pto?

Its ok to run it without the driveshaft/pump, but I wouldn't run it without the flywheel.

Get your idle issue figured out? or haven't you fired it since?
