Can anyone tell me where I can buy the best kit to rebuild my rave water reg. I have a 97 Chal.w/787.I also need the lower clamp. Thanks:willy_nilly:

I believe I need a new bellow and the lower bellow clamp, other then that I think it will work fine.:bigear:

Water regulator?...

What do you think you need to rebuild it?

These are set from the factory to open at a certain pressure that is supplied from your jet pump, once you begin to speed up. When your at idle, the bellows is flat, allowing water into the water box and the tuned pipe. At a certain pressure from your pump, it lifts the bellows which changes the flow on the three way valve, shutting off flow to the tuned pipe and directs it to your water box.........

There is a specific adjustment that is pre-set from the factory. If you change this, you can damage the motor (mostly by overheating your rubber joints)........

Water box Rave

I had never taken it apart for a good cleaning,Red cap was screwed all the way down[original owner?],orfice @ muffler had a stone lodged in it,also removed tube and ran a wire with cloth through it[runs under engine had alot of gunk in it.]The bellow has a weak spot[under pressure may leak] on it and the lower clamp was rusted in 2.Just thought I`d post to see what others had done. Thanks :bigear:

hey guys...im having similar problems, started my 96 GTX 787 and noticed water pressure regulator was leaking, opened her up and noticed spring was broken and clamp for bellow was rusted away. i ordered both parts...i keep reading on these posts that that the regulaotr cant be rebuilt and you have get a new one??...it seems mine is fine just needs those new parts...and whats this about the pre-set adjustments from the factory???...do i need to do anything else?? another question, if the regulator wasnt working what are the effects??? hot exhaust pipe??

Exhaust rave

I also have a question about the valve setting. Which way do you turn to make it run cooler? When I run it on the hose the water stream is greater and the water is cold. When it runs in the water the stream is less and the water is warm to hot. How do I make it run cooler?

adjustment

Screwing it down will allow it to stay wide open[ flow] longer, but the water should preheat at the lake so it might seem warmer,on hose you can`t let it run that long.I just got home from a test morning,my entire exhaust stayed cool/water was warm,I`m at red Dot flush to rave body.also you have water pressure at hose, engine gets water from pump/take a good flashlite and look thru pump[under boat forward looking aft.]@ 12 o`clock you`ll see the spigot the pump fforces water thru, mine had a couple of peebles stuck in it.My Lake Test Revealed my engine rave[pto side] is drooling oil, think I might need to replace bellow or put a zip tye on lower part.

i just rebuilt mine. i went to my local seadoo dealer for the parts. i as well had a rusty clamp and broken spring. the upper clamp was unscrewed all the way and the screw was loose inside the unit. the seal around the bellows was wrinkled and not sealing. i replaced the bellows and the lower clamp. cleaned everything and replaced the broken spring. it was simple. the factory setting is pretty basic.

i'd say it's 100X better to rebuild it then it is to run around with it pieces. nothing on mine has burnt up and it runs much better. i was scared by all the people telling me not to touch these, until i opened one and saw what was inside. :reddevil:

a brand new unit was priced at 260 dollars. i rebuilt mine for 45.

97 manuel says

For 787 engine, turn red cap[clockwise] until it bottoms then 3 turns counter clockwise.Adjustment is now complete.Red cap will be flush, note mine was screwed down when I bought the boat.Exhaust runs cool set to OHM.[3 TURNS]

Settings

I believe next trip over to the lake I`ll try screwing down and 3 clicks up.Just to see If I notice a difference.Should run cooler!

Water temp

Thanks for the adjustment proceedure. I wonder if a 20 degree water temp difference has any bearing on cooling performance.Right now the Gulf is 90 degrees, in the winter it's in the high 60s. It's funny to watch the natives that will not go in the water then. High 60s was a good day on Lake Mich.

Water Reg

I think we are getting excited over an adjustment, down all the way or up to top,not sure it matters as long as its allowing water through.Know what you mean about winter, been in Texas 25 years, grew up in Nebraska. Its just me and the bass fishermen in early March.
