Rave Valve help needed

During my rehab of this new-to-me, I have pulled and cleaned the rave valves. While running on the hose to bleed the oil lines, I noticed smoke and a black liquid coming from the back side of the PTO side rave. This is the same valve that I had to replace the broken plastic threaded piece. When I pulled it again, the bellows was coated on the inside with the black junk. The black O-ring on the neck of the valve is not snug.. it that normal? Just wondering if I need to replace the entire valve or if there is something else going on. Was hoping to be on the water on the 21st.. not too hopeful now. Thanks in advance.

ETA: There is only the large spring O-ring on the bellows. Is there supposed to be a small one on the bottom of the bellows?

Make sure the black o-ring down on the valve stem is snug and soft.
Next you can add a o-ring that will hold the small end of the bellows tight but there is not one from the factory.
Also if you are getting a lot of black sludge this fast you might be using the wrong oil or have the oil pump adjusted to give more oil than needed. Oil should be API-TC full synthetic an the oil pump should have the two alignment marks lined up with the engine not running and/or idle.

The prior owner was using a blue-green oil. I used a pump to remove the questionable oil and switched over to XPS. I have the oil pump cable as far out as it can go, and it still seems to be rotating the the pump counter-clockwise a few degrees open. Thanks for the quick reply.

Don't guess on the oil pump. Adjust the cable so the two alignment marks are lined up with each other.
If you can't get them to line up then there is something wrong with the way your cable is routed.

I got the oil cable squared away, now I need to dial in the idle out of water. It's only running at 1500 with the airbox and spark arrestor off. It's not wanting to stay running with them on.. I can't win..
Mix screws are in all the way and out 1 1/4 turns. If I can figure out the stall, maybe I could check the idle screw. Would the spark arrestor and air box reduce the RPMs that drastically?

All adjustments should be with the airbox installed. But at idle it shouldn't die just by installing the airbox. Make sure the screen is clean.

Think your choke cable is hanging up, restricting the airflow, or..keep cranking the idle screw. Lows 1.5-1.75 turns out. Highs, I'd set to an 1/8th.... Don't want to run on the hose to long(minute at most). You'll cook your pump and carbon ring...

Up to 5 minutes is OK to run on the hose.
If the plastic RAVE piston melted, then you need to replace the RAVE valve and the housing. The hole in the housing and the valve shaft are worn out and hot exhaust gas is passing through.
