raagghh! I wanna get in the water!

Hey guys,
I have a '96 sea doo GSX. It has spark, new plugs, new battery, new silenoid, & a new computer. The damn think still wont start. It turns over, water will run through it. It just cranks & cranks.. the fuses in the engine compartment are all intact.. It was a gift & has not ran in maybe more than a year. What am I missing? Could I try using starter spray?

The compression test is the first method of finding engine condition, ideally 140-150 dry with throttle opened - be sure to ground out the plug connectors and when you remove the plugs do they have a fuel smell to them? Next if you have pressure and already mentioned spark is the fuel system, the 90's 2 strokes had many variations of lean problems that will result in burnt piston/s, so inspect carefully all the fuel lines and if you find goop in one it will be in all so replace one at a time so no mixed up stuff occurs - a digital camera is a good way to keep track of this, the fuel selector has replaceable rubber parts or if you do not like to try this a new one is about 25bux, any air leaking into this system prevents the fuel from being drawn into the engine bay and when you think you are done with fuel lines you still need to remove the small screens at the carb inlets because that is where the trash stops and when the trash stops so does the fuel - do not discard these screens or you will be shopping for new carbs.

Yes... you will want to check compression... but if you just want to hear it fire... don't use starter fluid. Because it's been sitting... the engine may be a little dry inside. I would pour some premix fuel down the carb(s) and then crank it. It will fire if everything else is OK. If it does... then you need to go thought the fuel system.

It just hit me... do you have gray fuel lines? If you do... that's your problem. Replace the lines, clean the fuel valve, and clean the carbs. I bet you will find them full of green goo. (from melted rubber of the gray lines)

when you say water runs through it your supposed to wait till engine is running before you turn water on maybe your flooding the engine

:agree:...pull the plugs and crank away til all the water is out. I think you have a stripped brass gear, and to verify it, you'll need to pull the carbs
