I recently bought this 05 rxp for $1500 w/ trailer, it has some small issues, needs all 3 motor mounts, steering cable and vts motor. My question is while tearing into it I noticed I could free spin the compressor with my finger and when I started the engine the started to spin then came to a stop. I heard there is a clutch, does the comp disengage at slow rpm's? or is something sheared, Thanks, Mike.

Yes... there is a clutch of sorts, but it's just to allow an over-run, or absorb a shock load. You shoudln't be able to spin it by hand.

In the supercharger, there are washers. In an '05, they were a ceramic compound. Since you can spin the impeller... those washers have shattered, and gone down into the engine. DO NOT TRY TO START THE ENGINE !!

The damage is probably already done, since the ski was so cheap. But, the bits of ceramic get into the engine, and destroys it. That engine needs to come out, and needs to be stripped down to EVERY last nut and bolt to be cleaned out.

Thanks DR Honda, not what I wanted to hear but good info. Did later models replace the ceramic with a different material to avoid this problem, should I go back together with something else?

Did a little research and found a move to stainless steel. Would an appropriate fix be to install the washers for an 08 or newer and new bearings and seals and call the supercharger good for the next 100hrs? Thanks. PS I checked the oil filter befor I bought and there were no signs of fod in the pleats of the filter. Am I looking for chunks of ceramic or does it pulverize to a fine powder that damages the engine?
