Pto flywheel and jet pump annual maintanence

My seadoo manual says to use synthetic grease in the PTO flywheel or p/n 293550010 as well as p/n 293600011 for my jet pump. Do I have to get the seadoo brand or can I just use wheel bearing grease in the PTO and synthetic 75w90 GL5 in the jet pump. Thanks

I do not buy BRP jet pump oil, or grease. I just use Mobil Gear oil 75w90, and a tube of synthentic grease.

Funny this thread popped up as I was going to ask the same thing. I need to do both of these with my engine replacement. I have some Evinrude/Johnson HPF XR synthetic gearcase lube. Will this work for the pump? It doesn't have the weight on it anywhere. Thanks

That's kinda weird, the winter flow rate and viscocity should be somewhere on the lablel. If not I would just go get a bottle of the recommended gear oil. It's not that expensive and better safe than sorry.

Yeah, that is probably what I will do. I need a grease gun anyway (had one but can't find it). Thanks

For jet pump oil get Mobil 1, 75w-90, synthetic GL5 oil, it's cheap, about 10.00 a quart and you will have enough for several seasons. It will only take about 3oz. a change.

I use SuperTech Marine grease, from Walmart, its water proof, I also use it for the trailer wheel bearings, it also works well for a personal lubricant. You know what Pa always says, "if Walmart ain't got it you don't need it".

Also you need to be lubricating the zerk fitting on the PTO more than annually, I do it about every other time out.

hey, i was wondering if using shell red hi temp grease was ok? It was already in my grease gun, or does it need to be marine grease?

What Lou said.Any good grease is fine.Waterproof wheelbearing grease is better.Grease is cheaper than metal. If you use a lower grade grease on the pto,use it more often.Pump oil doesn't take long to do.It's a rainy day job.Pto takes 5 mins

Just a quick note on grease.Good wheel bearing grease is stringy. It helps draw more grease into areas needed instead of getting flung away.Put it on your fingers and it will string when you pull your fingers apart. It is BEST on rotating gears/metal that carry load.(shafts/bearings etc.)Other grease is used on moving parts that only have small reciprocating movement.eg steering linkages, trailer spring shackles etc.Hope this helps

how many pumps, just until i see either the shaft move, or the rubber boot expand or move? what exactly is this greasing lubing? and if I am doing this every time or other time I go out, where is the grease going to?

Just until the rubber seal bulges, be careful not to over grease. It keeps the drive shaft tighter against the pump. I guess the grease just dissipates.

Some goes past the seal into the pump area.(Eventually).Some is thrown out under the plastic grey pto cover.Just take it off and clean it every now and then.As Gordon Gecko said'Grease is good".(or was that greed)

Good movie, but I don't remember Gordon saying "Grease is Greed"

i dont even have the pto guard on either of mine, im guessing because it has to be taken off everytime to grease the fitting maybe the previous owner took them off?

Thanks for all your assistance. It was easier than I thought, however when I pulled off the Impellar cover and drained the oil the Pusher came out as well. I am not sure which way it is supposed to go back into the Impellar cover. It is shaped like a semi circle with a flat edge and on the side that is opposite the magnet it has a thin round 1/8" x 1.5" plastic piece with some grooves in it. I checked my repair manual but it does not show me how it goes back into the impellar. It can actually go either way. If your looking at the rear of the ski it can go Flat side up towards the top of the impellar or flat side down towards the bottom of the ski. Thanks

The spring goes toward the cone, there should be a projection that holds it there, the plastic piece (it's actually teflon) snaps into the spring and the disk side goes toward the drive shaft.

Lou

Sorry for all these questions but the spring and the projection did not come out of the cone. It's the Pusher that came out. I'm just not sure what way it goes back in. I know the disk side goes towards the drive shaft but does it go with the flat side up or flat side down?

If it has a flat side then there's a piece broken off. Personally I would just pull the spring out and forget it. It pretty much does nothing anyway. SeaDoo put that piece there to quieten the rattle, it could even be aftermarket.

Lou

O.K., that's a different design than I have seen. I would think since the teflon pad is in the center of the cone it shouldn't make much difference. The purpose is to apply pressure on the pump shaft to take some of the play out of the drive shaft. Since the pictorial shows the flat side down, that's the way I would install it.
