Problems With both Seadoos I have

I have 2 Seadoos One is a 2001 GTX the other is a 2003 LRV

They both have the Rotax 951CC 2 stroke engine.

The LRV runs great for about 20 minutes then the all of a sudden it starts throbbing or pulsating, cuts on and off, whatever you want to call it at 3/4 throttle or higher. Its acting like you let off the throttle then hit it full agian and then let off etc. It looses about 800-1000 rpms when it does it. The more you ride it the longer it looses the power.
The fuel filter was cleaned, plugs changed, oil filter changed.
Any Ideas on what could be happening?
Water in gas?

The GTX is having a worse problem. You can ride it for about 20-30 minutes then all of a sudden it dies and wont start back up until you take out the key and put it back in then its hard to start but will. Then if you go anything over 1/4 throttle it will die with in 30 seconds but if you stay below quarter throttle you can cruise around for quite a long time.
Its very wierd thinking the fuel pumps might be causing some problems as well because it takes a long time before the fuel filter bowl to fill up as compared to the LRV.

no one?

cleaned the RAVE valves and a fresh tank of gas, went for a ride on the LRV and it lasted for about 1.5 hours then it started messing up agian. same thing it was doing before.

Pressure test your fuel system. Your vents may be clogged by insects or something. A simple check would be to remove your gas cap next time it happens and see if it runs normal. Be sure not to get any water in when testing this.

I am not sure if it was this late, but did these models come with the infamous grey fuel lines, if so, change them. There are plenty of topics on those evil little guys.

Ok, I replaced most of the grey fuel lines with new black lines and clamps. took it out and this time it lasted for about five minutes, So I pinched the return line to the tank and it started running alot better, but still ran like crap. Last time I had it out it lasted for about an hour and half. (this is on the LRV) So today I removed the carbs took the pumps apart and cleaned the filters and the passages and replaced the rest of the grey lines. Whats with all the green gooey stuff on all the fittings? Also found out that it wasnt getting full throttle due to improper throttle cable adjustment. So its back together and hopefully it will work next time I take it out. I also installed new plugs and cleaned the RAVE valves.

I was reading about the adjustment on the RAVE valves and both vessels I have are screwed all the way in. Everyone on here said for them to be flush with the top? So I adjusted them that way and it would no longer idle. They are back all the way down.

The green goo is the inside of those gray fuel lines deteriaring from the inside.

The idle problem is most likely from the readjusting of the throttle cable. You will need to follow the proper procedure for adjusting the idle after adjusting the linkage. Make sure the oil injector is synched too now. The RAVEs do not affect idle.

I didnt have an idle problem when the RAVE valves were adjusted all the way in, when I screwed them out flush it wouldnt idle, then i adjusted them back in and idled agian.

Well the LRV is good to go, had it out today and ran great no problems. Its topping out at 55mph, is there a speed limiter on these things? I peaked at 61mph only once but I think that was luck. it goes 55mph with one person or 4 on it doesnt matter, and it gets there QUICK.

Also note that I found water in the pump diaphrams when I pulled the carbs apart. How would that have happened?

I did I compression check on the GTX and the rear cylinder is at about 80-90 psi and the front is 120-130. That sounds bad. I pulled the rave valve and looked at the piston through the hole and its pretty bad looking. Guess im gonna have to do a top end rebuild. :(

The LRV has been doing great. Today it started saying maintence on the screen when you start it up. What does that mean? It runs great, was full of oil and gas.

maintenance light

Not certain on your year/model, but on my GTI, the maintenance light will come on at 10 hrs for the break in period, and then every 100 hrs after that. It means just that; maintenance inspection. Dealers want you to take it in for a simple check i.e. plug change, tune up, etc.
