Just wondering if anyone is having issue with dess key. Mine will peep twice when plugged in.The problem is that it will not start unless I mess with the key. Should i look into getting a new key or should I lok elsewhere.

Same on my 96 gtx i will get 12 volt low it will turn over nice and quick and then i wont see low 12 volt again.......

i had to lick the one on my old '99 GTX. 300+ hrs.

Replace the DESS post is easiest, or a new key, which will need to be dealer programmed. (actually the ski is programmed to the key)

Had the same problem last year. Try cleaning the inside of key contacts with an eraser and the DESS post. If that doesn't work its time for a new post. Easy replacement, under a half hour.

Good Luck

Replace post but use same key?

Hi

I'm a new member. I have had a very reliable 96 xp for 4 years. This is a good site with lots of info.

I am also having lots of trouble with my Dess system. It double beeps sometimes (when it feels like it) sometimes it doesn't. The Post looks very simple to to replace but does not require a trip to the dealer to program because the ignition system recognizes the key?
Is it possible the key is the problem and not the post? So then to replace the key I have to get a new one and have that programmed by my dealer?
How do I know its the post and not the key?

thanks

Hi
If I get a double beep then the boat starts (starter turns over). No beeps, no start. Its intermittent. When I install the lanyard and I get no beep, it sometimes beeps twice when I push the start button but does not start (starter doesn't turn over).
The post looks simple to replace myself and they are for sale on Ebay.
When do I need the dealer to re-program it - when I change the post or when I change the key? or both? If I want a second spare key? What typically goes - the post or the key?
Sorry for such newbie questions.

Most likely the post. I got a used one from Minnetonka4me last yr.

Did you ever try to start it EVEN if it didn't beep?

Hi

I just ordered a used post from a parts supplier.
When I put on the lanyard and I don't get 2 short beeps, I push the starter and I get 2 (long?) beeps or some combination of long and short beeps (2). The starter does not turn over.
I got it to run a bunch of times yesterday at the lake but sometimes it just wouldn't beep. We got used to putting the lanyard on and off a dozen times before it beeped twice and then you could ride - but I did swim it back to the dock a few times. (short trips - not too far away). I will wait for my new (used) dess post and report back when I have a result.

Thanks

On my XP, my key acts up quite a bit. All I have to do rub my finger in it and blow in it. Usually works. It's not really a big problem for me.
