Ok here is the question, I have a 2000 GTI and all is working great on it but this year I am going to take it to have it winterized and looked over. I was thinking about going Premix or just having the Oil lines changed on it. What would you do? Do the oil injection pumps fail very often?

I personally per-fer to leave the oil injector in place. It is a variable rate injector system, meaning it adds more oil as the rpm's increase. If you pre- mix you will get oil at the same ratio and may cause plugs to foul easier. Les oil use is a money savings too. There is always debate here on the forum as to go to injector or leave the premix.

I vote to leave it on.

The Mikuni oil pumps almost never fail. On a Seadoo, what normally happens is that the little hoses from the pump to the manifold get brittle (or some times gooy) and they break. OR... the little nipples in the manifold plug up from the heat cooking the oil. (this takes years of neglect) When this happens the owner complains about how bad the oil system is... when in fact, they never serviced the system!!!

Every year... or at least every other year, I recommend changing the small oil lines, the filter, and cleaning out the nipples, and checkvalves. (poke thought the nipples with a small allen wench, and use carb cleaner in the check valves) Then, when you bleed the system, you will have a visual reassurance that it is pumping.

The only skis I remove the oil injection from is in a Yamaha. Anything bigger than the 701 engine can use a little extra oil to stay healthy.

Thanks, I would really like to leave it on but it just scares me to think about it locking up due to a pump. So they are really reliable??
