So I'm waiting on parts to get here and prepping everything to put back together, still wondering what caused the failure of the rings.A little history on this engine.
While removing the jugs I found the rave was stuck and I couldn't pull it out, so I thought it was damaged. i took pliers and pulled it out, it was severely gummed up for some reason, the other slides easily, I keep them clean so I don't get why this one was stuck.
This is the same cylinder that would not fire for some reason, it recently would do this cold, but I just ran it and it came out of it after awhile, or when I would stop and shut off engine and wait then restart and ran fine. I thought the whole time it was something getting wet and took a few to dry out and run fine, so I would just run it til it cleared. In hind-site, I believe the rave was stuck in position til it warmed up and then worked normally.
So...would a stuck rave cause ring to fail or is it a lean condition? Very confused and want to know before putting new top end on.
Its getting bored to 82.5 so minimum damage to the jug.
Also...do the raves have to be shaved?..I hear it should be 15k to the ring edge.
Im including pics of the pistons and plugs that came out of the engine.
