Ok another issue I am having is with my port engine. It starts ok and idles well, but the second you apply the throttle it dies, unless you ease into it very gently; as soon as the rpm's increase from idle it will run fine regardless of throttle position and how fast you push the throttle, pulls hard and everything, it's just that if you come off the throttle too fast off idle it dies.
I'm thinking it may be the low speed screw/ circuit but my expertise is limited to atv's and dirt bikes so i may be way off..
Any ideas on what it could be?

Either the transition ports are clogged, or the high speed check valve is leaking. Regardless... the carbs have to come part.

Is the transition port and high speed check valve both jets in the carb like a power valve in a normal carb or are you referring to something else. Trying to learn here.. Thanks.

I was having a similar problem. So far, I have cleaned the carbs, but I didn't really find any problems like dirt or anything. While I had things apart, I decided to replace all of my fuel lines, all 35 feet. There are some good carb adjustment posts you should read through, and that should help with getting your carbs properly adjusted. Try the one in Snipe's korner. Here's the link to the carb article(s). http://www.seadooforum.com/showthread.php?4151-Snipes-Korner...

I also have a 1997 Speedster.
