Ok so after we got our carbs cleaned thanks to these wonderful people here the kids and I were just sitting here and my husband has told me many times to take the seadoos out by myself so I finally gathered up enough courage tonight to take them so they get accross the lake and one of them quit going so being teenagers they let a boat tow it in I could have killed them when I saw them pull up? In the mean time I talk to the hubby on the phone and tell him "guess where I'm at?" well to say the least he wasn't very happy he said that we wern't sure that they were running good enough for just me to take them go figure!

Anyway soo now I am scared that something is really wrong cause I think thaty they were going more than 15mph but it wasn't all that far what do I do I am scared to tell him! Please help as quick as possible!

Spark plugs....

How mechanically inclined are you? If you know how to use a plug wrench or cresent wrench, take your spark plugs out. If you aren't sure about where they are, they are on top of the motor with the two black wires connected to them.

You need to just pull by the top of the black rubber. They will come off then you can take a cresent wrench and take them out. If you still have your tool bag for the ski, open the tool bag and there should be a metal tube, about 3 inches long with a small piece of metal rod that you stick through the holes, then you can break loose the plugs.

It seems you know what towing over 15 mph will do, so look at the plugs, you'll know if water is in your engine by doing this. If you can, you need to turn the motor over (I mean, spin it like you want to start it). If water spits out, you need to preserve it so it doesn't start to rust on you. If there is no water in it.........then your safe to go to bed and work on it later.

I would not be bothered by your husband. He told you to do it and after some time, you did. Tell him to hush up! Why? Because I told my wife the same thing and after finally taking out my GTX, she was coming around the corner of the creek, let off the gas at over 40 mph and put it up into the sawgrass of the marsh. It scared her and my two children to death. But, they managed to work it back into the water, scared to death of the alligators all the while, worried I was gonna be upset. I asked her why? When she told me I laughed. I told her that I could not be upset for asking her to do what I did. I was proud she did it but more proud that she took care of the problem with running it into the marsh.............so, tell him I said to hush up. If he wants someone to blame, ..........turn his finger around and point it right back at him!..........

Now,...........what happened?

I just sent you a pm I hope that it is not to late and you are still on here I haven't pulled the plugs yet but I have started it and it started right up so where do I look for the water spitting out from where I pull the plugs out or the tail end I can tell you there is no water coming from the tail end I will go pull the plugs and come back in here to check and see if you replied we can just talk on here in the regullar forum if you want so other can learn from my stupidity

Oh and by the way I had never even thought about touching the inside of one of these until we started cleaning the carbs and replacing the fuel line by the time we got to the second one my hubby was letting me replace the lines by myself while he cleaned the carbs however I havent messed with the plugs but it sounds like I'm gonna get a crash course

Ok as far as when it quit running good it acted like it wanted to go but couldn't it would start fine but wouldn't go oh and ther was black smoke that is all that I can get out of my 13yr old daughter who was on the back of this one and my 16yr old son that was driving decided that it would be better to just stay at the lake with his friends rather than come home and see mom panicking alllllllll night long.

Ok I pulled the black rubber things off but I can;t get the plugs to break loose I don't have the bag of tools so I was just using a cresent wrench but I didn't want to crank to hard and break something I just spoke with the hubby and he is about an hour away I really wasn't wanting to tell him about the towing if I didn't have to but I don't know how to tell him that I needed to check for water coming from the engine

Black smoke....

When you asked what would come out with the plugs out....that would be water through the plug holes. But, from your PM's and your being able to start the motor, you did not ingest any water. So, your o.k. there.

You still need to pull the plugs. We need to know why you were smoking that black. There is only one true thing that causes that and it's the rotary seal. This is not something you or anyone other one person can say that they cause. It comes from using the wrong oil or just from old age.

Do you know where the spark plugs are? If so, pull the black rubber boot off the top of each plug, then take a cresent wrench and set it to the bottom of the plug, where the hex is around the base. Turn it counter clockwise to break it loose. You'll want to look at the bottom of the plug. Your looking to see how black and oily it looks. If it looks kinda clean, no oil, then pull the other one. Compare the two. Does one look different from the other? If so, in which way? Be careful not to break that white glass coating of the spark plug when you do this. That is the porcelin insulator. If you accidentally break that glass, the plug is no good.

THank you thank you! You are the MAN if you really don't think that it ingested any water.

I am sure that it is old age cause we use the expensive seadoo oil I am having a hard time breaking the plugs loose so I think that I will wait till hubby gets home and explain it all to him and get him to pull the plugs to see what is going on. The biggest thing that I was freaking about was the towing what should I tell him to look for we do have the pictures of the plugs that you posted we compare them all the time.

So tell me has your wife taken the ski back out without you again and if so does she do well with it? I am really hoping that there is light at the end of this tunnel I do consider myself an independent female and hope that someday I can do this and have a good experience.

Ok so the hubby and I go out to start it up this morning and a big chunck of hard plastic comes shooting out the back of the ski so that is where we started. After he took the impeller out it appears as though the wear ring has come off and the impeller ate it. For the most part it is still in there so where do we start and th hubby wants to know is this a sign of something else that we need to be looking for to go wrong with it?
