I took the jetski to the lake yesterday and got it to start and run. So I took it out in a ride rode perfect no problems but once I brought it back to the shore it’s bogged down and died. After that it was having a hard time starting agian. But after a while it would start. So I though it was fine so we took it out agian and there was no throttle response. Then I started to try to tune the low speed jet by puttering around and adjusting it and I couldn’t get it to accelerate like normal. Then I finally got it to idle and run kinda. Then I turned it off and sat for a little wouldn’t start back up. Do you think it’s overheating or maybe flooding. What do you think?

What have you done maintenance wise? Give us a little back story on the history of the ski.

just bought the ski about a month ago. Didn’t run didn’t know what condition the engine was in so I just bought a brand new engine from sbt. I have the black fuel lines and I just rebuilt the carburetor last week. Not sure I did it right got oem kit and new needle and seat. But other than that I don’t know new engine and rebuilt carb. I feel like the jetski is either flooding or overheating.

I think you need to replace the spark plugs and put the carbs back the way you had them. It is common to foul spark plugs during engine break in and even afterwards.

If you are worried about engine temperature ride the ski with the seat off. You should be able to place your hand on the engine and exaust for a few seconds. Check your tattle tale to make sure water is flowing. If you installed the engine I'm sure you checked and maybe blew air through all the water lines and checked the fittings. If you didn't check the fitting you might want to remove the hoses and do that. The fittings do plug up. Buy a temperature gun ($30) and check various parts of the engine while it is in operation.

Did you by any chance install an inline fuel filter on the system? If so... remove it and throw it as far as you can.

Check your spark plug caps, make sure the wires are tighly inserted into the caps and can't be pulled out.
Good Luck !
