I just picked it up from the dealer on Saturday. It has the most HORRIBLE acceleration, barely getting me on a plane, and I top out at 60mph on glass water. I was expecting the top end to be terrible until the break in was over, but is the bottom end the same? It literally cannot put a skier out of the water, or myself if Im holding onto the bars. The supercharger kicks in at about 5000 rpm, and you can see on the graph, that its working, but seriously the 0-60 on this machine is about 12 seconds. is the normal for break in. This is in SPORT MODE, with the SPORT KEY, Im 240lbs, single rider.
Please advise.....

Something doesn't add up. There's no such thing as a sport key last I checked just a learner's key. With your regular key you can access sport mode. Did you do that properly to the point of the sport mode light being on the display? You have to hold the button down till a message scrolls across your display them press the button again for a beep. Now you should be in sport mode. During break in it will be more sluggish until the computer lets go and you get the full potential of the machine. In most states it is illegal to tow anything with a 2 seater as you require a spotter and room for the skier so that's a no no for you. Even being 240lbs you shouldn't have any trouble planeing out.

Also If you read your manual you are suppose to start out at only 3/4 throttle and take it very easy during break in... You shouldn't be trying to push the ski right away. Follow the break in instructions for better results with your ski. If you have trouble keeping yourself to slower speeds use the learner key for the first 5 hours. Another thing to remember is that the computer dumbs down the motor, I think until 10 hours of break in riding. Whenever I have a new motor for a ski I pretty much ride it for the first hour at or around the idle speed. Enjoy the water and take care of your ski so you dont have costly repair fees because you voided the warranty by not following the instructions. I just helped a friend with the break in time on his 2 new 260s and we didnt push the skis at all in the begining and now they run great.

Is this your first PWC? I have never purchased a new PWC but I have purchased new boats. Whenever I have purchased new a representative from the dealership has gone with me to the lake and shown me features and how to use my new boat. I would think when making a major purchase of a new SeaDoo the dealer could do the same.

Go back to the dealer and tell him the problems you are having, if he is no help contact SeaDoo directly.

Lou

Again, respect the break in requirements so that the dealer can't blame you for issues.

That said, something is wrong for sure.

Check the impeller area just to make sure you didn't pick something up

My 2008 RXT-X 255 is a monster. 2.8 seconds to 60 mph and is unreal out of the hole as well as in the mid-range area.

Hi thanks for all the help so far.... Couple of more explanations. This is my 9th sea doo, starting in 92 with sp, then 93 spi, 94 Xp, 96 xp, 97 spx, 98 xp, 2004 rxp, 2008 rxp-x, now this pos 2013 rxp-x. I haven't actually tried to pull a skier out of the water, I was just trying to convey that it would not be able to, as it cannot pull me up when I start it from the side and give it a lot of gas to pull me up. There is nothing in the intake grate ie sea grass etc. the brake is up and disengaged, and sport mode was depressed and across the screen reads sport mode tell passenger to hold on, etc.
the first 1/2 pull of the throttle is giving me no response as it only gets power greater than 1/2 way into the pulling arc. Being that this throttle is drive by wire, there is no throttle cable to adjust.
The supercharger does not kick in until -approx 5000 rpm
Again, I am willing to give it the 10 hours break in,but just don't want it to be the same piece of crap, then sea doo tells me I should have said something sooner because now it is a used piece of garbage

The SC should kick in MUCH sooner. I would have someone from the dealership meet you at the dock so they can physically see the issue.

Just bought a 2013 RXT-X and launched it yesterday.. first time! Mine seemed VERY sluggish as well until I put it in "Sport Mode" and then hit the "Select" button. Then it wakes up!!!

That said, the ECU dumbs it down for the first 5 hours.. and limits maximum RPM to ensure a proper break-in of the moving parts.

I'm coming off an 215hp 05 RXT, and this new ski has way more buttons and functions to learn...

Enjoy!!

I agree! Get someone from the dealership down there to experience/witness the issue you are having. They will either show you what you are doing that you shouldn't be or will recognize what the ski is doing it shouldn't be. Either way get it DOCUMENTED on a service slip from the dealer so you have record that the issue was mentioned. Any manufacturer will find any loop hole they can to not cover something should you have issues in the future.

You were NOT in sport mode at that time. Read your manual and learn how to properly engage sport mode and try again.

I'm pretty sure this controled engine performance for the first 5 hrs regardless of which key you use in the high performance seadoos is explained in the owners manual.
