I thought I'd follow up with my original post in case someone else experiences the same problem. I tested the battery, it was fine and tried jumping the solenoid as suggested. But it still would not start, so I took it to an "authorized sea doo mechanic" at West Coast Power Sports in St. Petersburg under warranty...waste of time. They said nothing was wrong and that the machine started fine after they charged the battery a bit more. They said they started it 10 times in a row and it worked. They charged me a $50 diagnostic fee for nothing....I told them I wasn't crazy and it wasn't the battery and probably the solenoid and/or something else. I had the battery tested several times and kept it on a trickle charger.....and it was a brand new lithium battery showing 14 volts and 12.5 under load ...but they insisted it was probably just the battery.
So, I took the PWC out and it worked fine...For ONE DAY and then it wouldn't start again!!!Tested the battery...14 volts, just fine.
So I took it to a mechanic friend who is NOT an "Authorized Sea Doo" mechanic ...lol ....having never worked on a sea doo, in 2 minutes flat, he told me there are at least two starter relays, the started solenoid (which many on this forum had me test) and the 30 amp starter relay (inside the fuse box.) Sure enough, he cleaned the contacts on the 30 Amp relay and it started right away.
Since it is an $8.99 part which can be snapped in in 2 seconds he suggested buying a replacement for backup.
Needless to say, I have yet to find an authorized dealer in central Florida that knows how to actually trouble shoot a problem instead of guessing or relying on what the buds system does not tell them.
If anyone experiences the same problem, check the battery, solenoid, and 30 amp relay to see if it is making contact before venturing any further.
Thanks I hope I save other people the head ache I went through with this intermittent problem.
