Pitting on the tops of the pistons

I put in new cylinders and pistons after i lost the front cylinder while pulling a tube on my 1999 seadoo gti.

After the repairs, i took it out on the water and ran it for about an hour. It ran great. The compression is good and normal.

i got it home and then i opened the cylinder cover and looked at the pistons. the tops of both pistons had some pitting in them already. they looked like the front piston did after it blew, but not as bad.

Why did this happen? Should i worry?

1) THe ignition timing could be high.
2) The carbs are lean
3) The squash band is set too tight.
4) Bad fuel

Did you disassemble the bottom half, and clean it out???

If not...

5) junk coming up from the crank... from the last melt-down, and beating the new pistons.

Regadless... you need to figure out why, and fix it before you loose your new top-end.

Sound like its probably crud in the crank case from the last break down.

how can i get it outta there ? i know its not magnetic. i dont wanna take the the cam shaft out cause that looks like a big job.

would the crud get expelled thru the exhaust after going through the combustion chamber anyways ?

Cam shaft? What kind of engine are we talking about? You don't have the ski in your signature?

That engine needs to come out... be dissasembled... cleaned... bearings and seals on the crank cheched... and then be put back together.

You could take a chance that all the left-overs have passed out the exhaust... but I wouldn't. Also... if you have physical damage to the tops of the pistons... there is a good chance that the top ring will crack, and cause a second melt down.
