Hey guys,

So I picked up a 95' xp and it seems like it has all kinds of race things added to it and I have no clue what half of it is. It has an aftermarket UMI ( I think thats what it is ) handle bar and steering set up, looks to be all aluminum. Its aluminum also inside the underside of the steering as well. I opened it up and it has an aluminum TDR waterbox, looks like a Factory Pipe and I think it has water injection, has some kind of small computer hooked up also and an K&N flame arrestor. It has low compression in a cylinder. I have read up a little on the Factory Pipe set up and it says that if ran with an aftermarket Arrestor, it will eat up the cylinder, so I guess that is not a surprise that it has a bad one. I took a bunch of pictures so you guys can see......

So my question is, should I even mess with it and rebuild the top end or is this just going to be a problem and should I just part it out? I bought it cheap and Ive been parting out ski's for a few years now and selling parts on Ebay, they go for good money on Ebay, crazy because of how old the skis are. Anyways would love to learn about what I just got and some info from you smart people on here :thumbsup::thumbsup:

What a wonderful ski. Someone built a really nice one there. Sounds like your right on with the parts ID, the "little computer" is a water injection module. It reads the engine rpm and kicks the electric solenoid on and off.

I say save it and enjoy it. If you insist on parting it though I'd Paypal you $500 for the yellow hood, the UMI and the Pipe kit(comes with that billet water filter).

They burn pistons up because people try to run the pipe with stock carbs. Even if you re-jet them it just does not work. You will need stock 96XP carbs or better.

Matt this ski stock is a 50mph ski, with this kinda stuff done to it what would you get out off it on top end? Im sure it get there fast

If Matt doesn't take the hood, I'll be next in line for it!

96 XP800!
Keep the 2 strokes alive!

great post, I don't think anything has been left out.

to the OP: as a fellow left wrencher, a pickup like this can sometimes put you in a little bit of a pickle, with all those components involved there is a lot of fun factor upside to getting this back on the water for personal use but from my experience there little to no financial upside to taking the resto approach, these days its very difficult to sell a modded 2 stroke and get full value, it took me 6 months to sell mine, and I probably turned down 20 lowball offers during that period.

I had a friend with a similar setup that was in a big hurry (30 days) because he was moving out of state, and when I found out what price he agreed on for sale, I wished I had lowballed him myself. I actually was the one that delivered his ski to the buyer because I happen to be heading that way (2 hour drive) and when the buyer started talking price again I told him quite simply, "if you don't pay the 1400, I will, and you'd be doing me a favor"

So, if your leaning towards left wrenching it, you'll get some really really nice prices for some of those items, I like to sell those choice items to forum members whenever possible for two reasons: 1) avoid ebay fees 2) moves them to members that will build a nice kick azz runner. 3) less chance of dealing with a difficult ebay buyer on parts that are sometimes very expensive to ship.

I need to start a thread on mine when I break it out again. I have one with that pipe and 787 carbs and it outruns stock 96XP's. So I'm gonna say 56-58mph but I think a healthy stock 95XP 717 trimmed up with less then half a tank and a under 200lb rider can hit 52ish all day. The pump extension really helps. When the 95 hits those speeds it's just a little more exciting and exhilarating because they are louder and lighter. Those pipes make a monster out of a 717. My first one I had for ten years had a TDR water box on it also. I sounded like a swarm of giant bees screaming up the river.

Ive taken a closer look at it and its pretty clean hull and it looks like it has a ring on the jet to extend it out, looks to be 6" or so and it also looks like an aftermarket impeller. I think im just going to part it out. I have to many ski's and projects to start another one and the daughter is 16 now and is buggin for a car.....LOl..... kids, got to love them. Thanks for all the great info guys, you all rock !!!
