Phantom start issue?

I recently installed a new battery on a 99 GTX RFI, and as I was attaching the second battery cable, the ski attempted to start on its own and without the key.

I was advised that it could be the starter relay so that was changed out.

But the same thing happened! What do I look for next.

Take your big connectors off one at a time and look for corrosion.

maybe hit the start button a few times and make sure its not stuck...never had it happen but who knows..

The big connectors on the MPEM...the main brain.

MPEM connectors look great, clean with no corrosion.

Just a question-Wouldn't a stuck start button only start the ski if the key is attached? This is happening without the key in place.

Also, this has a toggle switch as opposed to an actual start button. Previous owner install? Don't know.

Ski will start using the toggle switch. It also will try to start (turn over) on its own. That's the problem.
