Which adapter do you use? 96 XP 787.?

Which fits like a glove..

or use just the rod itself?


My reason for asking is because i just got my shims today and have been trying to get this thing perfectly aligned and am having some difficulty. With the adapter on, it fits like a glove all the way through until the end of the pto..
With just the rod, i can adjust the motor slightly and make it fit like a glove also but not all the way to the back of the pto. It fits good past the splines , but not all the way to back as it gets in a bind, if that makes it more clear.

Ok, what about the binding thing? Should it be able to bottom out on the PTO? Or just past the splines?

It should slip in pretty much as far as it will go mechanically. When you do it I like to mark the top of the shaft, then rotate 180 and try again. Just to make sure everything is "round" and my alignment is good. DO NOT twist the rod while it's in the PTO.

Anytime I do alignment I always flip it 180. If there is a difference, you would then split the difference.
