Quick question here...... My OEM starter on my 1995 GTX 657x looks like it has been to war with the elements and previous owners attempts to paint it or cover it with a rubberized compound. Ugly mess.

Since I am rebuilding it, I want to paint it to prevent rust and aid in longevity of the component.

So, here is the question: Does the starter need to be painted with anything special or marinized with a special coating? I would think a good metal primer, white paint and clear coat would do it. Thanks, George

I just clean my starters, sand and paint with the same color paint as the engine. I use Rustoleum.
