Hey guys,

I have an 2001 XP and when I start it out of water the idle starts off about 3500 and then increases and increases until I shut it off. I had it in the water last week and it seemed to idle fine. Is it because it is free-wheeling, or do I have a problem?? The idle screws are almost all the way low and the throttle butterflies dont open by themselves while the idle increases so I was thinking it was free-wheeling, but I thought it was suppose to stay around 3000.

Please reply with any input, anything helps, sorta new to this stuff.

Thanks!!

have you adjusted your throttle cable lately? if so may be too tight...if not your experiencing a lean out....air is getting in some where,

I tried to adjust the cable, but when I loosed it for idel the cable wouldnt do wide open throttle, the plugs seem wet(normal I assume since I was idling) so I imagine its not leaning out. Where could the air leak be? And would it be fine in the water if was an air leak... I would imagine it would be the same on land or water.

yeah, i no....meaning, its setting the idle rpm, WAY TO HIGH. Turn it counterclockwise, to decrease the idle.

Turning the screw OUT will drop the idle. If you remove it... the engine won't start since the butterflies will be completely closed. If you remove the screw, and it still runs... then there is something wrong. (like one of the butterfly screws fell out)

butterflies are good.....

Thanks for all yours posts guys!! Hopefully I get this thing figured out soon,
