So I have deducted from reading here and lack of reading the manual, that I have put the wrong oil in. I put it Xps. But it is xd50! Should have read here. So if I replace the filter and drain the tank and blead the air out, can't I pour in the new correct oil and just run the the rest through? I have been running the wrong stuff all summer. So whats one more trip to burn the rest out?
 
Going on a HUGE LIMB here... again...,,and only speaking from over 20 years of racing experience,,,if your oil was inadequate, you have had some kind of engine failure by now,,,You do want to bleed the lines in the pump,,,usually a 7 mm bolt I believe,,,put a rag underneath,,,open the bolt,,,and let it run for 30 seconds,,,and you should be fine,,,you can't always see down there,,,
If you try to find a research thread/article on how 2 stroke race motors have failures due to the non factory specific oil type, you will eventually find one!,,but it will conclude that a 2 stroke race motor does not fail due to the oil not being of a factory type, ,,,because I have found these articles/papers years ago before I joined these forums, when we got into racing,,,
When an oil line cracks/breaks, or when an oil pump fails,,,you will have an engine failure,,,due to the lack of the oil lubrication.
My 800 cc LTD race motor, revs consistently at around 7650 to 7700 rpms.,,,(premix of course, 40:1, smoky at low idle vs stock, which are around 100:1 for emissions,,,),,,,we run on the CHEAPEST!,but SYNTHETIC 2 stroke oil we can find,
You will not need the most expensive synthetic,,,your engine may call for synthetic,,,or you may just need the next grade down,,,,tcw3,,,(I think),,,Couple years ago, we luckily found a 7 litre container of shell nautilus SKIDOO 2 stroke synthetic oil, in the off season (spring,,,at a Walmart, for $35.00...Canadian,,,.lasted us almost 2 seasons,,,,an amazing deal!
Amsoil gets lots of suggestions,,,but we don't use it for 2 reasons,,,1,,,it is seriously expensive, and 2,,,the colour of the oil gives the plugs an artificial brownish tinge,,( the oil is reddish),,,and so it makes it harder to read the plugs and thus how the motor is actually running.,,,Of course, if you are lucky to have a sponsorship/free oil,,,you will take whomever you get,,,as long as it is synthetic for us,,,
There have been no great deals at Walmart in recent years...lol,,,so...I get my 2 stroke synthetic at Canadian Tire, ,,,and it sells the Shell Nautilus (we have been using since 1997), in varying degrees,,3,,,I believe,,,but always has the synthetic,,,
Most domestic/non race motors fail due to some form of fuel lean condition, lack of cooling,,,,or eventual metal fatigue,,,of course, the seadoo 951's don't like water intrusion, lack of oil does not blow them up.
Over the years, rarely do I find a failed oil pump on a customers ski as the reason for the engine failure.
So, when in doubt,,,get the cheapest synthetic!
I drained the lines and added the proper oil....i have a small air pocket on the in side of my filter...had steady flow at pump/bleader. Should I worry about the small bubble? It sure smokes a lot so pretty sure getting oil. Thanks in advance.
 
How do you know you have an air pocket inside the filter,,,it's opaque.,,as far as I know.
 
By shining my flashlight on it. And if I am not seeing an air bubble cause it is opaque, thats great...cause then I would not have to worry about the bubble! Lol
 
The air bubble is pretty common and yes, you can see it.
You can try to flick it with your finger with the filter vertical and sometimes it will come out. Other times you have to remove the top hose for a split second to purge the trapped air.
