As we awoke yesterday my girlfriend and I decided to spend the day at crystal lake for the second sunday in a row. So we startec getting things around and she washed her truck but not 5 minutes after it started pouring. What the heck! It wasn't supposed to rain til after 7p.m! So plans were cancelled. Then a half hour later it was back to sunny and 85. Typical michigan stuff. We decided to proceed with our original plans. Off we go. It takes roughly 45 min to an hour to get to the lake and as we arrive just like the weekend before, No Parking. I wasn't too concerned tho. The week before I parked in a spot along the road and was not ticketed so I parked in that exact spot.

We were on the lake for probly a good 4 hours when all of a sudden the sky turned dark. But ther wasn't any lightning or thunder and by viewing the radar on my phone it looked like it would just blow over. So we figured we would just wait it out rather than mad dash the boat launch.

So ther I am holding the anchor rope to try to give us a little more stay when one of the continuous 4 foot swells takes my sunglasses away. No chance in getting those back. So after about 15 min the wind and rain subsides and I have the girl flip on the bilge pump. But its not pumping! I figured it had air locked and I just had to give the exit hose a shake. Climb up the boat, open the engine hatch. Holy Spit! Water spraying out of about 6 little holes in the flimmsy plastic bilge tube. Only thing I coul come up with is that from bouncing maybe it was hitting the fibeglass and a piece had pubctured it. So I try crimping the hose together to reduce the amount of spray shooting everywhere and I got the water to a safe level. Now its time to head to the launch. We weren't having fun anymore. Put the lanyard on, hit the button, no fire!" O Dear God" I said. The spray from the water musta got the coil wires wet or somthing. So I try it twice more cursing each time and on the second time it fired. Out of the water we go. At the dock, run to the truck just see a little soaking wet white piece of paper stuck under my wiper.

Now I'm on fire! How can they give a person a ticket for parking along the road when ther are cars without even trailers parked in the lauch parking! If any one should get a ticket it should be them. I no I'm not the only one who feels this because I'm not the only one who got a ticket that day. But jeeze o petes. What a way to end the day.

It was a long quiet ride home.

Sounds like you have legitimate means to fight the ticket, especially if the launch parking is identified as "Vehicles with Trailers Only". At one launch I frequent here the most inconvenient spots at the top of the hill are "Vehicles with-out trailers ONLY" parking.

I'm having a hard time finding a strap for my Oakleys.

The glasses realy didn't bother me much. They were just a cheep pair I picked up in mexico when I was there. They are easily replaced.

I'm prett certain that the leaks were caused from a shard of fiberglass but I haven't looked at it much. Ill post a picture of how many holes it has. It looks like a vegetable strainer. Lol. Its funny but its not.

As for the ticket. I probably won't fight it because ther is no points inolved. But if they flare my temper more I may be so inclined. The launch is run by the county and not the DNR so the launch is free but it also means if the sherrifs deputies are on their then there is nobody to govern things.

My girlfriend sent a letter this morning to the crystal chamber of commerce as well to the montcalm sherrifs dept. Just to express our gripes. I'd like to post it on here so you guys can read it. She writes letters like that really well.

this is the letter

My family and I are avid boaters who enjoy commuting to your lake in the summer. We have made the hour drive from our home in Saint Charles, MI to Crystal Lake for the past several years, at least every other weekend, if not more. We enjoy making contributions to your community by filing our boat up at your gas stations, eating at your restaurants and shopping in your shops. Until this weekend, we have been more than in love with your small community.,******** I am writing to you today in complaint about the parking at the public boat launch, located on the north, east end of Crystal Lake. Summer 2009 seems to have been busier than the past years at the lake, which is leaving limited parking in a parking lot that is not regulated, causing boaters to park on the side of the road with their trailers. Myself, as well as many other boaters are being ticketed for parking on the side of the road. Please understand that our vehicle/ trailer was not even on the pavement, additionally we are not parking in lawns of homeowners but are parking on the lawn of the boat launch parking lot.,********,******** In our travels to other lakes, the DNR runs the boat launch, if the parking lot is full, you have to wait and a “full lot” sign is placed on the front of the building to prevent ticketing. Additionally, we have noticed many small cars parking in spaces designated for trucks and their trailers. I feel that it is highly unfair that boaters are left with no parking and tickets while cars without trailers are allowed to park where a truck and trailer should be. I would have no problem paying $6.00 daily or $24.00 annually if it meant the parking would be expanded. (This is what the DNR launches charge.),******** Now we are stuck with a hefty parking ticket to pay and are highly disappointed with the disorganization of the launch. We have created many memories in your small town, and love the friendly citizens. We cause no problems and have never had any issues with others on the lake. I understand that the County Sheriff is the party responsible for ticketing, but I certainly hope you will bring our concerns to whoever is in charge. Incidents such as mine will certainly deter boaters from coming back to your community.,*,*

letter

Very well writen! way to gooo! lol... hahhaaaa... i cant beleive you have to drive 45 min to an hour to get to a landing! that would drive me nutz!

That's why your truck has to look as good as your boat.

Yeah it sucks having to drive a distance to get to a body of water. From where I'm at its the same in every direction. 45 to an hour north, south, east or west. And it also makes it that much harder to get people to go along.

I drive 2.5 hours to the cottage every weekend, 45min is peanuts :)

But do you do it everytime you want to take your boat out? I'm guessing when you go to your cabin you don't come back that same day just to turn around and do it again the next day. Plus are you hauling a boat each way?

We were trying to figure out how many miles we put on the trailer a year and it ended up being like 4 to 5 thousand. Yup, new tires next year.

You are right, we leave the boat in the water up there so all we have to do is head there for the weekend and it's there for us to use any time. Rather then towing it each time we want to use it.

nice!!!`

thats awsome! thats what i call the love for boating! i have troubble finding people to go sometimes too! its kinda funny but ohh well! i am verrry lucky and have a boat landing with in 10min of my house! and that includes stoping for gas! i have to have everything match! my wife thinks im crazy! but my boat, my camaro, 4 wheeler, and trail blazer all have to be white! lol... thats just the way it is! its all gotta look good!!!!! rex do you do any other kind of vinyls???? like custom checkerd flags for the challenger????

Do you mean like checkerd flag vinyl graphics? Or checkerd blow in the wind flag. Let me no what it is your looking to do. I may be able to help.

It's a well written letter...problem is that they don't care. It is a revenue generator and they will issue more. We have the same problem at our lake. Since it is a free launch, it is quite crowded on weekends. The nice thing is that is usually if you wait for a little bit, there are fishermen coming in and you get their spot. But you will get ticketed for parking in the car/trailer spot. I am sorry to hear that happened to you....must have been the topping on the day. What you should do is look around at some of the other lake in the area and see if there is a better place to visit. :hurray::cheers:

hose leak!

i do believe your right rex! it def looks like it has encountered some fiberglass... thats the only thing that makes sence! with my graphics that are on my boat they want waaay to much to replace just one! i wanna replace the same existing ones with a waving dark blue and white checkered flag! i want them to be the same size as the exsisting ones! (the 2 big ones and the little ones on the top side of the bumper). i want it too look like a direct replacement but just with a waving flag that gets tighter on the way back! i think it would make my boat look faster! lol... hahahhaaa let me know if you can help and if so pm me.

mike....

update

girlfriend got a call today from the montcalm sherrifs dept. toaday. the officer first complimented her on the professional letter she sent, then went on to tell her that she should send it to the DNR because the lake is run by the dnr even though they do not put someone on duty at it (ever). they are the ones who post the signs and even though they own numerous amounts of acreage around the lake, it is their choice to keep the parking limited. i said they get complaints every year about the limited parking and if he had it his way he would have every untrailerd car towed out of the lot but he said there is no sign in the lot that says no cars.

she said the officer was pretty nice on the phone and he told her that its good that we sent it to the chaber of commerce also because the officer knows the chairman and he will make sure the letter is brought up at the next meeting.

Wow they just tell me to blow it out my a$$ when I write letters or try to address issues. The chamber here is run by snobby rich people so all they care about is if you have you trash cans off the street after trash day and mow your lawn.
