Accelerator pump?....

Now do not get me wrong I can be very wrong but if you were able to get the bad engine to operateing temp and you were to very very slowly give it gas it should run ok at mid range and top end if has a bad excelerator pump. keep in mind that I am not allways correct but I am willing to share my view points. Good luck Robin

:agree: with Robin on this. If your engine is running crappy and you might think it's the accelerator pump, you'll need to try and get into mid range, where the accelerator pump does not affect the performance of the engine. You'll likely have to feather the throttle (slightly pump it back and forth, using the low speed jet to shoot extra fuel to achieve RPM and the additional vacuum to get to mid range).

But, from all the posts I just read, I think your problem is in your magneto. There, the 717 uses a generating coil and lightning coil. The lightning coil needs to be within a certain tolerance to trigger the ignition coil. Also, electricity meets the coil in two different steps. The primary coil delivers the first electrical charge which is then stepped up by the secondary windings........But just a hunch that your rough running is in your igntion spark. I'll even have to throw a "robin" in here. "I could be wrong on that"....

OH NO LOUIS...not you tooo. I hope that isn't contagious...I think I'm feeling it too.......

"of course I could be wrong on that", and good luck.

thanks guys, the accelerator pump was definately bad we rebuilt it toady and kinda adjusted everything back within starting specs. we went to crank her up tho and found a dead battery thanks to me leaving the switch on all night and day...so back on the trickle charger. where is the magneto? i thought that the stator assembly was all the charging system there was and i replaced that?

ok we rebuilt the carb and adjusted it back close and now the engine idles like its suposed to and fires right up on the first try....but after that nothing!!
it idles like a champ but when you try to rev, it just spuutters and goes dead.
what should i try next. the accelerator pump seems fine now.

i downloaded a manual and under lacks acceleration, about the only thing i see left on the list is restrcted exhaust system...what could restrict it? and how do i check it? any other ideas please?
