Oil Pump

I replaced my stator, in the dark, twice, last night. (don't ask). How can I make 100% sure the oil pump is... pumping? I know I got it on right, but the tiny shaft from the pump goes into the black 'cap' from the flywheel, so if I got it on, it's good?

thanks!

The first time I assembled it, we missed the black flywheel to pump plastic piece, because it fell under the engine and I didn't even know it existed... somehow the bildge gods, who usually just steal my bolts and tools smiled upon me, because without the oil pump I assume I'd have only gotten to 2 hours on this new engine, if that!

you could replace the little hoses between the pump and the manifold. Then... when you go to bleed them... you will see the oil pump into the hoses.

If you hoses are old... it's a good idea to change them anyway.

well

in another topic i read to hold the valve open (like it does w/throttle) and it should start smoking a lot since it's dumping too much oil in the engine...

that should mean it's working...

I replaced the filter as well, and spent a good 20 min bleeding and getting bubbles out...

the 'spring' things in the oil line (keep it from kinking closed) have some debri on them i need to clean out this fall.
