I cant find it? I looked at the manual, it said it should be where the rear storage compartment is, but mine doesnt have it? How do you tell how much oil you have in it? thank you..

LOL I FOUND IT!

I just open the rear storage to look at the engine, and the oil reservoir is right there!

AND TO MY SURPRISE I found the Engine, The Battery, LOL.

Believe me IM A NOOOOOOOOB!

lol

That's fine... we were all there at one time.

Your fuel gauge has an oil light. It should come on with about 1/2 gal of oil in the tank. If you want to do a trick mod to your Sportster... Replace the fuel gauge with a Tach, and mount a multy gauge from an XP in the hood. It has a digital fuel gauge, a battery light, an oil light, a temp light, and a fuel warning light. (redundant) But if any of the lights come on... your buzzer will sound, and you can see what light is on.

The reason the Tach is in the hole by the steering wheel is because the XP multy gauge is too long, and hits the hull behind the plastic mount. The Tach plugs right in, and the fuel/oil on the multy gauge plugs in also. But, to get the temp and battery lights to work, you have to tap into a few wires right under the hood. If you are interested in doing the Mod... let me know, and I'll tell you want to do.

I am extremley interested in doing the mod.. would love your help thank you!

Im going to take it to puddingstone lake tomorrow (wish me luck)..

Hopefully all goes well..

2 things...

1) take pics. (I miss being in SoCal)

2) I have both gauges you need because I parted out an XP last year. PM me if you want to buy them. (I'll give you a good price)

Yo Doc...not bad man. What wire yuo use for the RPM gauge. Gotta 97xp that needs one BADLY.

KSW.... I'll PM you shorty.

SeaDooya... On the Sportster, a tach or speedo is able to be put in as an option, so the wires are behind the helm, (the multy guage is a little more work) but on an XP... you can tap into the yellow/black wire of the mag, and it will read the RPM's. One more thing... you need to add a 20k Ohm resistor to cut current going to the tach on that wire so you don't burn it out. (Get it at radioshack for about a $1)
