Oil leak

Newbie just got a 1996 Seadoo Bombardier gtx. It was free and was left on friends yard for 16 months.
I started it up runs good. But every time I tip it up. Red oil comes into the hull. I clean oil up. And tip and again and more oil comes out. Where is the oil comjng from. Any help would be appreciated

Look at the oil tank. Common for the seam in the tank to fail as well as the lower grommet to leak. There is a one-piece tank available if that is the issue.(No seam in the one-piece tank).
 
Well,, what color is the oil in the oil tank? As I noted above, they are a common issue when it comes to leaks..
 
As I look right now look like that is where it'd coming from. Oil tank has red oil in it. Do I have to take whole oil tank out to replace ?

If it is the lower grommet, no, it can be done with the tank in place. If it is the seam, then yes, must be removed to replace it. If you need a tank, [MENTION=41828]Minnetonka4me[/MENTION] may have a tank for you..
 
I am flying so i don' think I can pull up a picture for you. But,,, it is at the bottom of the tank. A line will be going into it.
 
I have a 2004 and the seam around the oil tank has failed. I call this a very bad design on BRPs side and they should recall all the units with the issues. the oil tank should have been made one peace and not top and bottom part...just my opinion...

They did change the design,,, there is a one-piece tank available.
 
I just ordered a new tank two weeks ago for my 04 GTI and received original seadoo two piece design. Not sure if you have to make a special request...
 
You can only buy the one piece tank used...they only made them one year in 96. I think I have one left currently.

Some/most models had tanks that are two halves bonded together at about the half full mark. These tanks also had a baffle to help keep oil from sloshing away from the outlet port. The tanks are known to leak at the seams & are near impossible to repair. (at least in my experience) They often will crack were the securing straps go across. The one pice tanks never leak, but have no baffle. As long as you don't run your tank near the bottom before refilling, the baffle isn't necessary anyway.
 
So after looking at the gas tank. I have realized that the lower grommet is not where it is leaking. It is leaking from under the gas tank. Am I screwed? Gonna take a pic

Maybe your ski is on the rag?? lol Dripping oil can be hard to find. I would clamp off the hoses and remove the tank and clean up the oil. See if the leak stops. If so its the tank, if not then maybe your oil lines going to and from the rotary valve is leaking. The lower part of your gas tank is red though so I bet its your oil tank.
 
If you look there is a piece of rubber under the oil tank. It funnels the oil to the middle of the bilge. Take a paper towel and put it under the oil line area. Bet you get oil on it. The oil line comes out of the bottom of the tank. That is where the grommet is. It seals the edge of the hole and the line goes up the middle of it. I did a Mickirig repair. I turned the oil line connection 180 degrees back and forth about 5 times. It stopped leaking for the last year.

So should I be looking for the grommet on the oil tank or gas tank ?
