Oil & Filter Changing - Any way to speed up?

I just did my first oil & filter change in my 08 Challenger 180. Easy enough but my question to the group is this:

Is there a faster way to suck dry the sump? The drill pump is slow as hell! I've seen a pump attached to a catch container and I've seen the vacuum canisters you pump by hand. All of these solutions see to suffer the same drawback, a small inside diameter tube that is needed to snake down the dip stick tube.

Will a higher volume pump make a difference and speed up the process? What do the pro's use to change the oil?

Thanks,

Ted

On average how fast does it drain the sump and how much pumping do you have to do to get the thing going?

Dr. honda is right, it only takes a few pumps, pulls it out in a couple minutes, of course you want a warmed up engine, and you will repeat the few pumps inbetween the drown mode a couple of times, that is moving the oil to the crankcase so you can suck it out.

Guys,

Thanks for the prompt responses. West Marine carries them and my local has a few in stock.

I ran my motor for 30 seconds and now I'm wondering if I needed to double it. How long do you guys warm it up before you start the process?

you do need to run it alittle longer than that, I run mine about 4 minutes or so with the water hose on the flush connector, don't run engine without using flush connector for that long, you can overheat the exhaust and the manual say's not to run the engine on the flush longer than 5 minutes because there is not cooling water to shaft seal out of the water.

Your on the right track to doing a quick oil change, just heed the short warm up time. It doesn't take much time to get to warm temps., for the oil to flow.
