So, I bought a new oil filter for each of my 2-stroke ski's. (951s).

How do I change it, but keep it primed? I don't want my engine starved for oil while the filter 'fills'...

getting to the filter on my '02 XP is easy, but damn the on my '99GTX is buried under the exhaust... pita...

A step by step how to would be great!

thanks!

Pinch the hoses, and remove the filter. Then, plug it into the tank hose, and release the pinch, and let the filter fill. Once full, plug it onto the hose for the pump.

It's not perfect, but it will work.

If you aren't going to properly bleed the system... then run the next tank of fuel with 50:1 mix in it. That way, when the air bubble hits the pump... you wont kill the engine.

ok

sorry; found it:

Bleeding
CAUTION: Oil injection system must be bled and
adjustment checked before operating engine.
Ensure oil injection reservoir is sufficiently filled.
Install a dry rag below oil injection pump.
Loosen bleed screw to allow oil to flow.

Keep bleeding until all air has escaped from line.
Make sure no air bubbles remain in oil supply line.
Tighten bleed screw.
Wipe any oil spillage.

page 342. looks like it just gravity bleeds... with that screw,

but it will be a nightmare getting to the GTX one

I must have been lucky, when I changed the filter on my 97 gtx, I did the steps that dr honda recommended, except for the bleed screw. oops

I did make sure oil flowed through the filter for a few seconds though, then poured oil in the bottom line to the pump till I was heaping full and shoved the filter on it. I would run 50:1 mix if you can't bleed it. :agree:

Is operating with a mix in the gas tank on the first start up after draining the engine of oil sufficient to bypass bleeding the system?

I would not recommend doing it that way if I knew any better, but mixing is somewhat of a safety net I suppose for any hiccups in the line while its running through.
