I just checked the counter balance shaft oil in my 98 GTX Limited with 947/951 motor. I do not seem to have any oil in the reservoir. I lifted the front of the trailer up to see if anything will drain back into the fill hole. This is bad isn't it? I don't need this crap. :o:mad::puke::banghead:

Don't freak out yet.... The volume of oil in these is so small that it might be hard to see. The experts will let you know for sure but I do not have much time with the 951's but on the 787 the oil slowly disapates into the engine over time so that is why you have to add oil as part of the scheduled maintenance, the 951 could be the same. Let's hope that you caught it in time and can just add oil. Does yours have a drain plug that you can check to see if any comes out? If it were mine I would just add the recomended oil and ride it. More than likely you are fine because if the gears were starved from oil it would have eaten itself already. Bring in the 951 experts...

actually i'm with the noid, fill er up and go, but i'm a fly by the seat kind of guy, somebody might say differently. But I don't think you've screwed the pooch. If I remember its a tiny amount of oil in the first place isn't it ?

1.35 oz's is what I've seen and read. Still don't know what kind to use. 30W oil or cone synthetic oil? I won't use gear oil.

?? I have not read anything really on this anywhere. What and where is that on the 787? And as Spimothy said, what kind of oil?

Not to get sidetracked but the 787 uses oil for the balancer too. The early ones were filled at the factory and that is all you got. Later they came with a fill and drain plug. Because there are no solid seals between the balancer gears and crank bearings over time this oil is lost into the crank and must be replaced at the specified intervals. Without lubrication the crank gear and balancer gear get into a fight and leave the cases. It is ugley and there are no winners.
