I am the guy that boght two 04 gtx sc and thought they were good but one had a giant oil leak. Well I found and repaired the leak. It was on the pto rubber boot bearing around the drive shaft. I did every gasket on the pto cover just to be safe. Orings too. It now runs and rides great. For those of you that helped, thank you so much.

My new mission is to with parts cost only make them faster and get better top speeds. I am running 8150 rpms on both at full throttle and getti g 45-48 mph on both. Now these are the 185hp motors so I am looking at changing the impellers out because I was told I am under proped and I was thinking about adding intercoolers. Has anyone done this to a 185. Is it possible to do and should I get the computer reset to give more fuel. What else can I do to make these things faster. I have been told I should be getting about 62-67 mph from them stock and I dont know if the impellers have been changed before so I want to start there I think. Can someone please chime in with the appropriate pitch prop for my desired outcome. Riva says a 13/20 I think for the stage 1 kit. But before I buy I want to be sure it is the right one for me. I am going to weld a scoop onto my intake grate. I have seen some of the aftermarket and basically all i have to do is add a scoop so that should be easy enough. Has anyone out there done this before. Any upgrade ideas that aren't too costly would be appreciated. Also I am good at fabricating upgrades if I can get the ideas so any input even timely stuff is appreciated.

Thanks
Andy

You should be seeing 60-62 mph. Definitely not 67.

Call up Erik at Speedreaks racing about what pitch prop you should get - he's the prop master.

There is a lot of R&D that goes into intake grates by the big companies, and modifications by the owners doesn't usually end well and can be very dangerous.

A 3" kanaflex hose intake would be a nice addition to your ski as well. If you check out 4tecperformance I believe there are intercooler kits for the 185 skis.

45-48 mph and 8150 RPMs are both serious problems. The ECU for the 185 GTX is set for around 7600 RPM. If you're really running 8150 RPM you need to figure out why. Has the ECU been changed to a 215 unit? Have the pumps sucked up any rocks/debris that might have bent the blades on the prop?

Yes, you can put an intercooler on the GTX 185. It's the same layout as the RXT minus the secondary waterbox the GTX has, so most RXT parts will fit.

I messed up. It is actually 55-58 mph. Not the before mentioned 45-48. Also both pumps and props and drie shafts are good. They also have good wear rings and bearings on one r good. The other they r a little noisy but still smooth and tight. I was told they were completely stock and I am pretty sure I am the first one to bet do more than an oil change. So I think the ecu's are stock. I went to the riva store in key largo and they told me I am under propped. I don't know because the prop they recommend is only 13/20 and stock is supposed to be 12/20. Can anyone explain these numbers to me. What the first and secon would mean. Thanks again and sorry for the confusion.

The two numbers...12 and 20 describe the angle or pitch of the leading and trailing edges of the prop. The higher the numbers the steeper they are. The leading edge will grab more water, the steeper it is. The trailing edge will move water faster the steeper it is.

Water doesn't compress well...ask those with a hydrolocked motor.

The steeper the blade, the more load on a motor, the lower the rpms will be. If your motor has the ponies the end result will be more speed. If it doesn't...a taller or steeper prop will be a dog.

You should check you rpms again, you should not be getting that high. Not even possible for a stock 185hp to get that high, the rpm limiter will kick in way before that.

If you want to go faster, get a 215hp. The 185hp have about the same top end as the 155, 60ish, but just accelerate a little better.
