Looks like what I was telling you. Pretty sure that's lean detonation. It was running so hot that the metal starts to break down. I have not seen it where the head was that affected. I don't think a partial rebuild is going to work for this one. This is not too bad of a deal for a replacement:

If you look at both, the price is about the same. MinneTonka4me (Nick) might also have some options available for you.
Good luck and if you need anything, let me know.

Bell99man hit it on the head.

You had a fuel issue, and it cause the engine to run lean. That is apparent in the "Piston Wash" on the MAG piston crown. The PTO is a little less tolerant, and it melted the crown. (you can see the melted section directly under the sparkplug, and heads toward the exhaust port) Since the seadoo Rotax engines use an exposed top ring... it was able to break away from the piston, (after the piston melted) and beat the heck out of the head.

thank you doc ! everyone in this forum has been a great help ,going to take this winter to rethink my "where i went wrong" looks like a long winter!

Is there a warning sound, smell, smoke, temp, etc. that would indicated this is happening to your ski before it gets this bad? In other words, how do I know if my ski is running lean? I'm knew to these machines and don't want this to happen to me. Sorry Bigmike, but would like to learn from other's mistakes instead of my own.

The best way to know if it's running lean is to check the plugs frequently. There's a very good write up on the forum by seadoosnipe. He has 20 + pictures of plugs and not only ideal conditions but also when it's running lean and rich. I've been known to check the plugs 2-3 times a day if I'm running alot. It only takes a couple ofinutes and can save you a world of hurt. Cheers.

dear mark this was my third time out on the ski when i had the dess key programed the guy with the computer said my ski only had 59 hours on it he said it should last a long time ,i could not hear anything wrong i did not smell anything funny an no smoke or overheating issues as a matter of fact it was running extreamly well ,the only thing was last time i had it out it lost power 2 0r 3 times but fired right back up an ran great again i thought maybe bad gas or cloged fuel line but it wa proubly already on its way out .from what i have learned there is a screan in the carb that gets dirty maybe that was the proublem. dont take my word im very new as well but the guys here in this forum are great! very helpfull an knowledgeable.best of luck !
