Not Starting In The Water

I was out pulling a tube the other day and I lost power and heard a loud exhaust sound. I turned the engine off opened the engine compartment and smoke pored out. I burnt up all the ruber exhaust hoses. I messed around with it and found that there was a 100 percent blockage in the cooling system water was entering the system but not leaving it. So what I thought I would try is to reverse the inlet and the outlet hoses. I reasembled the burnt exhaust hoses and made it back to the other side of the lake. I checked the engine and the exhaust both were runing cool and the pisser was pissing. I got home and put it back together the way it was supose to be. the next day I took it out it was cooling good but it was loosing power and shut off. I opened the engine compartment and found that the fuel pumps pulse line was kinked so I fixed it. I went out today and and I stoped for a minute of pulling a tube and it would not start back up. The kids are not to happy and neither am I. Do you think I did some damage when I ran it hot the first time I had the problem with the cooling line blockage? the compression is 125 and 135 Do you think the rotary valve has damage or what else could this be. 657x engine. I am allso hearing a noise that I thought was coming from the pump but when I listen closer I think it may be coming from inside the engine. maybe the back bearing :(

Reversing the cooling lines!

You should never reverse the cooling water lines. By doing this, your changing the flow path the water takes into the engine and the tuned pipe.

Your original problem sounds like you may have had blockage in the water injection system of the tuned pipe. This will cause the exhaust system to overheat and burn your rubber boots.

The water inlet goes across the head, into the exhaust where it is preheated and then, moves through the exhaust manifold into the engine block, up through the water jacket and out the back.

I sent you PM on your "bearing noise". So, go over that and see what you can figure out. In the meantime. If the engine is able to run, start it up at idle, turn the hose on and look at the exhaust. You should have water blowing out of it. If not, or if it's really weak, then you need to check the calibrated nipples for blockage. I think your engine has 4 or 5 of them, if I remember right. You don't have the water regulator, just a split on the inlet water, from the engine to the exhaust system.

Let us know what you find out!........

Also Robin, use a long handled screwdriver and hold the Handle to your ear and the blade end to the engine case. Listen to the noise to figure out if its a bearing. The screw driver works like a doctors stethoscope and amplifies the sound.

i had an exhaust pipe rattle that sounded like a dead motor. you coulda burnt off one rubber hold-down strap. if not, pull pump and fire it up. still have noise?...
