Noise From Pump or Supercharger?

I rode my 2003 GTX supercharged for the first time this year after winter storage. While jumping 2-3ft waves, I noticed a squealing noise while the pump was out of the water. It went away as long as the pump was in the water. I don't ride this one very much. We have others. I've not noticed the noise before but I also don't jump waves of this size very often with this boat. My wife mostly drives it. The boat has 46hrs on it.

The noise is not present when the boat is run at idle or at elevated rpm out of the water, nor does anything sound any different when the pump is running at any rpm in the water with a load on it. The boat performs as it always has.

I'm not sure if the noise is coming from the pump or the supercharger. I originally thought it was coming from the pump as a squealing bearing but the more I thought about it, it may be coming from the sc clutch washers slipping. Hard to tell when you're jumping waves. It sounds as if the washers have no lubricant in them. I don't know which it is.

The sc has not been rebuilt and it cannot be turned by hand with the hose off. Oil was changed last fall with Sea-doo 4tec summer blend.

I have a few questions for anyone:

The 2003 washers are steel. Does anyone have an idea for what reason they were changed to the ceramics by BRP in 2004? Was there something undesirable with the original steel washers?

Does the sc clutch come into play (slip) when the pump unloads coming out of the water or when the pump loads up going back into the water? Or, does the sc clutch slip at both times and in both directions?

Is there any way the carbon ring could possibly cause a squeal like that but not when run at idle out of the water?

I will be running this boat more to make sure the lubricant is worked into the sc well enough after the long winter storage and I suppose I'll pull the pump to look at it. For now I'm just here searching for ideas and discussion to determine which way to go. Not a big priority right now. I'm open to any ideas.

The noise you hear when jumping waves is prolly the pump coming unhooked....normal.

The ever brilliant engineers prolly had a killer deal on left over ceramic washers from China's space lab.

The sc clutch slips when coming under sudden load...ie when the boat lands back into the water after jumping.

I have 223 hrs on my original carbon ring...never heard a peep from it.

With motor warm check to make sure oil is between the bends.

The noise sounds like a high-pitched whistle that is not the normal sound the pump makes when it comes out of the water at full throttle.

The oil is at about 1/3 on the flat part of the stick.

Keep the ideas coming! Thanks.

Yup. Boat has no issues other than this stupid noise when the pump is unloaded that I've never heard before on any of the many Sea-Doos I've had.

Thought about that but not too seriously because usually anything in the pump will cause cavitation, speed issues. I can see how a small piece of something caught in there could possibly cause a whistle sound. I will be looking at this the next time I get a chance. Siphon tubes maybe? We'll see.

Well, I finally got to look at this problem and I fixed it! But, I think I caused it. The whistle, squeaking noise when the pump was out of the water was caused by an exhaust hose that was partially restricted. The noise happened only at high rpms with the pump out of the water when jumping waves.

The hose that goes from the muffler on the right side, up and over to the exhaust outlet on the left side was caught under the bracket located just under the small rear storage tray. The hose is ty-wrapped to this bracket along with the siphon hoses. Either when I removed the air intake hose or other hoses when I changed the oil and winterized it last season, the exhaust hose got pushed under the bracket and due to the stiffness of the hose, it deformed to the point of being squeezed down to about half its diameter. I suspect the high pitched whistle or squeal I heard was the exhaust passing through this reduced size opening in the hose and would only be present when the exhaust flow was high, like at wide open throttle. With the exhaust also being out of the water, the noise could be heard. No noise was heard at wide open throttle as long as the exhaust was in the water.

I thought I'd seen just about every problem with sea-doos but this one was new to me. How stupid. Guess I learned something.
