03 GTI LE-RFI...cruising along and everything went dead...dash out and engine shut off. Towed in and no electrical power when lanyard connected. Battery 12.4v, all fuses check out with mulit-meter no corrosion on any terminals. Could the lanyard be bad? Thanks

Thanks for the link...I've checked all connections, wires and fuses but nothing abnormal and still no elec power. It's like the lanyard isn't connected??:banghead:

Could be the post. You need to check the wires coming from the post to see if the tether is closing the switch. Mine was working randomly so I jumped it out with a non-dess tether.

Ok...checked the wiring to the DESS post. Tether off: 12v on Bk/Pur wire, no voltage on Bk/Y, Wh/Gr, or Bk wires. Tether on: Same. Should I see 12v on the Wh/Gr or Bk/Y wires (Bk is grounded) with the lanyard connected? If so...is the post bad? If not...now what?
Thanks for the help!

I got almost 12 volts when i tested the post wires (after the box)
I then undid the start button bigger black plug and tested it but no change at the meter. I plugged back in and went to test the post wires but now I have power?????????
Don't ask me how or why.
Mine started up w/ 2 beeps....
Weird thing..........................Wish we could get rid of the post but it is good for security.

Try this, it may not work but it doesn't cost a thing. Try cleaning the post, use a pencil eraser.

Thanks Lou...been reading up on other posts and tried that already. Also tried pressing the start button 5 times with the tether off and then connecting it...still get nothing??

With the tether off... if you push the start/stop button... the power should turn on. Pressing it 5 times will put you into advanced diagnostics mode.

If you aren't getting power, and you've checked all the fuses, and power connections... then yes... the MPEM could be bad. It's not normal for them to just give out... but it can happen.

Tony - Could the MPEM not work sometimes but other times it does?
Twice I've no power (threads no power & no power again)
Thanks.

Thanks...I was hoping it wasn't, but looks like it might be....

In this case... I may take it to the dealer, and ask them to try to connect to it with their computer. It will cost you about $30... but if they can get into it... then you can spend the time to look for a poser problem.

Generally no. When they give up... that's it. For you... I would look for a bad ground.
