Is there any way to find the hours on a 97 xp and 99 xp limited? I have heard conflicting stories of a dealer being able to hook into the computer and read the hours from the mpem or cdi or something?

Is this possible?

Thank you

YES, the dealer can hook up to the MPEM, and tell you the history of the engine and hours too.

thanks karl

so they can do this even on a 97 and 99 model xp?

and what all can they see with history or the engine also?

thank you again for the reply

Older engines...

There is not a lot they can do on the older model Seadoo's. The only sensor you have is the temp sensor, which plays no role in the tuning of the ski.

They can see the hours that's been recorded but the MPEM programmer is used to check and set the fine adjustment of your timing. They can retard or advance it a degree or two. They can see and set your rev limiter. They can also see any kind of electrical fault, like a problem in your rectifier.......but, it's very minimal compared to what is seen in the 4-TECs......

thanks snipe

Is it possible to just take the mpem off the seadoo and bring it to the dealer and have them check for hours? As the closest dealer is over 100 miles away.

If so where is the mpem? How easy is it to remove?

Mpem?

I think yours is up front, under the storage compartment. I'm not totally sure though.

It's going to be in a watertight black box. It should be fairly easy to identify.

I'm not sure he can read your mpem out of the ski, unless he has another in his shop to hook it up to. The programmer commects to your DESS post.

I'm not to sure why you want to read the hours, unless its because your buying it under the pretense that it hasl ow hours. But even then, if the motor was replaced, it may not reflect tha change.

When buying a ski this old, the #1 most important thing to check is compression........

If your near Ohio, you can stop by and I'll check your hours. Snipe is right, there isn't a whole lot of info in BUDS on the older models but it will give you the serial numbers of the original hull AND motor numbers so you'd know if it's been changed, also original purchaser if the dealer felt like entering the info.

If you want to send the MPEMs to me, I can check them and give you a print out of all the info in BUDS. You pay the shipping both ways and I'll do it for free. PM me if interested but even the hours isn't really helpful imo.

btw, 97xp mpem is way up front in the nose, 99xp mpem is left side engine compartment just behind engine, very easy to remove and not in any box, just unplug and remove a nut or 2.
