I am beginning to think this boat hates me or wants to be in little pieces.

So I fix the idol problem, now all of a sudden the boat will not start. I put the key on the DESS no beeps, press a start button, get one long beep. Gauges lights up when start button is pressed.

Shifter is in neutral, moved it to forward, put key back on the DESS and get 4 short beeps, so I know this is not the problem.

Battery is good, I can manual start the engine if I bypass the start solenoid.

So what is telling the MPEM it is not ready to start? Thus not allowing the boat to start. I think its a loose wire or bad wire, but I don't even know where to start!

HELP!

Enter diagnostic mode via the 5 start presses without the key followed by 1 with the key, then the start attempt. Got 2 shorts beeps.

CODE:

• Mixed wires at DESS post connection of the DESS wires.

• Check DESS post wiring harness

That is what the shop manual says.

So I look at the wires for over and hour, and did not find nothing wrong. Then I pulled the master harness off the MPEM, I decided to look at the connector with a light. Sure enough there was a white wire with the connector pushed back not making contact! I fixed that and it started right up.

Neutral switch...

It's either the neutral start safety switch or your post/lanyard is not communicating with the MPEM. That's what the 4 beeps mean, but most times, it's cause of the post not being able to read the ROM chip of the lanyard.

But, because you can start it by jumping, after the lanyard is on, that says there is a safety switch that is not making up, that's why the mpem is not allowing a start by the normal means. If there was something wrong, electronically, you woudn't be able to start it at all........
