No clearance between wear ring and impeller

So I successfully removed and installed a new wear ring on the 07 GTX Wake Ed. The wear ring is correct and is from Bay area water sports.
Or so I thought...

I cannot spin the impeller by hand, but I can with with a wrench and impeller tool.
I've heard of no clearance with new wear rings before, but this seems exsessive.
I'd like to start the motor so the impeller seats itself but am scared the starter won't be able to turn the prop initially. If it does, I'm guessing the impeller will make its own grooves in the plastic wear ring and solving my issue.

Is this at all normal? Anything I should do about it?

It isn't uncommon. The one thing I would bring to our attention is, are you sure there is not an issue with the pinch washer? This will create a SERIOUS drag to the point of not being able to spin the impeller at all.

If you feel good about the pinch washer, the install it and start it. I have no idea why I feel the way I am about to tell you, but I do. I like to start it in the water. I fell the extra load and the water will help to protect the dry wear ring. Again,, this is just me,,, not in the book.

Pull your plugs out, spray some lube into your pump area and crank it over a few times. It will cut the ring to size in no time. Then re-install the plugs and start her up for 15 or so seconds. Done!!

I just replaced mine with an OEM wear ring and it fit fine. Slid right out after it came out of the freezer as they said it would.

Just curious- what brand ring did you install?

I don't think it could be the pinch ring as it still wouldn't turn even having the pump off the ski disconnected from the pump housing. It's difinitely the impeller scraping against the plastic housing. I had to chisel the old wear ring out but that was after realizing there were 4 set screws holding it in. No wonder the freezer trick didn't work. No idea on the brand. Could be generic from that waters port company.
Pull my spark plugs out? So the motor doesn't start and only the starter carves the grooves?
I have a feeling as soon as the starter is able to turn over it will groove itself out and be find after, or at least I hope.

You can turn the motor, w/o pulling plugs, without starting it by pressing throttle all the way when hitting start button.

holding wot on the 2 stroke rfi's and i believe di's and 4 strokes puts it in flood mode meaning power wont get to spark plugs and fuel injectors to clear out excess fuel hence wont let it start.
