Newbie from NW montana

New to the group. I've inherited a 1997 GTX. It came along with some problems, but after poking around this site a bit, I'm confident that the members here will help me get it purring along again. Experienced mechanic, but this will be my first foray into PWC ownership. What the heck... It can't be any worse than owning a boat.... Can it?

Hello Paul, you will love the GTX, I own one and it has been great, get a repair manual and get those gray fuel lines out if they haven't been changed. if you run ethanol fuel through them you will clog the internal filters in the carbs. I learned the hard way.

Thanx for the reply! Already found the owners, parts, and service manuals. Good advice, I learned a ton of stuff just by reading thru those. The gray fuel lines looked okay, still nice and flexible... They don't do well with regular fuel? Did you just replace them with regular fuel hose?

I would replace the fuel lines for sure while you rebuild the carbs. I also recommend replacing your little oil injection lines and oil filter. Not a bad idea to pull the rave valves and clean them up if they are dirty. Check the pump/prop/wear ring for damage.

Thanks for the advice, guys! prop and wear ring look good, previous owner replaced them not long ago due to gravel ingestion. I plan to change the impeller oil once it's running. Do you recommend the genuine Bombardier impelled oil, or is there a better or less expensive product out there? I've got a dealer close by, so picking up the correct oil would be easy. I'll tasked your advice on the lines... It's cheap enough, and just a weekend project. Doesn't look very difficult to replace them all. As per the tech manual....Those little oil lines have to be bled out, right? I've seen some folks say to run mixed gas 'til you know the pump is working... what do you think of that?
Took a trip over to Helena, Montana Friday, and I was kinda surprised to see that almost all of the lakes on the way are still frozen over! Coldest spring we've had for awhile... Glad I haven't drained the antifreeze from the boat, yet! Anyways, I've got a month at least until the water is warm enough to try this thing out. Can't wait!

I use amsoil marine gear lube myself...any kind of good gear oil will work.

To bleed the lines I just pour a little oil down each carb then start it up and hold the oil pump wide open and watch the lines fill.
