Hello everybody, my name is Eric and I just bought a 97 Seadoo GTX and I just want to familiarize myself with my new ski and things I should and shouldn't do with it. I have an 89 js 550 with the original motor and internals and the oil I use on that one is Penzoil marine synthetic I was wondering if it was okay for me to use that oil on my gtx or should I maybe use a different oil. And the person who sold it to me rigged it so you mix the fuel before you fill it and I wanted to know if the oil in the reservoir should always have oil in to support the rotax. Does rotax slowly consume the oil or does it recirculate it? Thanks and I look forward to learning from all of you.

In that motor you need the oil tank to still properly lubricate the rotary valve. I have a GTX with the oil injection hooked up and I just run the seadoo XPS fully synthetic. Just my preferance on oil type but I know there are certain oil's you can not use with the rotax motors. Others here know better on that than I.

I agree!

:agree:.....good answer. You need to use a non NMMA, non TCW3 type oil. Because I can't get the Seadoo XP-S, I use the QuickSilver brand, full synthetic in my 1997-787cc engine. Quicksilver makes a lot of different oils, so make sure you read the back of the bottle. It will tell you that it can be used by the Seadoo 2-stroke motors.

I buy it at Walmart and by the gallon. It will be in the automotive section.

The oil tank needs to be mainained for the rotary gear as stated above. It's only for lubricating. Pressure from temperature change that is created, vents from the hose you see coming out and running back to the top of that tank.

Oils. . . .

Oil's and which ones to use always seem to be a touchy subject because everyone has there own ideas. But personally i run Amsoil in my premix ski and XP-S in my non premix ski. There are certain people out there who think you should only run Sea Doos XP-S lube but i'm not on that band wagon!!!! I have heard good things about quicksilver and it being of decent quality and at a great price.
