So, a little story. Some friends of mine sold their house, and had this broken Sea Doo in the garage for years. Offered it to me for free, so I dragged it home.

It was in their family for quite a while, someone sent a bolt or something bad through the top end while they were "fixing" it. Regardless it ruined a cylinder and piston, so it sat for years. Inside and covered. Good news is, the hull is in awesome shape.

Another friend of mine just recently found an '89 in a package deal he didn't want or need, hull is horrible, engine starts and runs great. So, we make a deal, and spent a few hours today making the swap. Ugly yellow engine traded for a pile of disassembled ugly yellow engine.

Current status is this: Engine in. Cooling lines connected. Fuel lines connected thru what appears to be a vacuum/pulse setup fed from a hose from the right side of the block. Old fuel drained, oil topped off with "Bombardier" labeled oil that came with the decent hull.

Here is the question. What should I have in mind/look for BEFORE firing it up? How do I prime the oil system? I don't want to make a noob mistake when I've seen from searching, there's a ton of knowledge and experience in this forum.

Thanks in advance!! Mike.

Oh. So far I have approximately $20 into this little project. And my buddy is throwing a trailer my way. Cant complain:coolgleam:

Sounds like you have it ready. I would just check for leaks on the oil lines going down to the rotary valve gears, and I would add 2 oz/gal oil to the fuel tank. The extra oil will help lube the engine while you are bleeding the oil system... and it will keep you safe if there are any air bubbles in the injection system.

After the first tank of fuel... you won't need it.

Good luck, and have fun.

bleed the oil lines there's a screw right by the arm that connects to the carb from the oil pump undo that to bleed it and fire it up. make sure you keep an eye on your plugs to see weather it's running rich or lean

Sounds easy enough. Probably wont work on it again till Monday, but if I have any problems I know where to come.

Thanks guys.

Alright, a week late or so, but got the sea doo running. Had a serious oil leak on the bottom return line, and a bad rectifier(?), but once I hit the start button, it fired off immediately.

We started it for a few seconds a few times just to make sure everything was good, and let it cool in between, but if I revved it very much, it acted like the rev limiter kicked in. At what R.P.M does it kick in?

ah, that's what we were guessing. Good to hear. I have plans to get it in the lake tomorrow, let you know how it goes.
