hey evryone, i'm new here just trying to figure this out. first. I'm looking to purchase a utopia 205, some things i'm not sure of..

1. which is the better choice 240 efi or 250 opti, reasons??

2. SE or not wht's the diff.??

Answer to one

SE usually add a few things depending on the year. You should check the BRP website, you can reference past year model so you can know exactly. SE usually add snap in carpet, covers, depth finder, maybe the remote radio control.

I'll let the resident motor expert help you with the motor.

240 Vs 250

I guess I should have mentioned it. I'm looking between 2003 & 2005. Budget, don't want to spend more than $22000.00

I prefer the 250 optimax over the older 240 for a couple of reasons. First they still make the 250, and second the engine management system on the 250 is much more advanced and more automotive like than the older 240. The 240 did undergo major electronic updates in late 2001 which made the later generation more reliable, and user friendly " in my opinion".

Hmm...that budget is enough...

New guy,

I bought my 2007 Utopia 205 SE with a remaining Best Plus warranty until 2011 for less than that. Craigmri bought a 2007 Utopia 205 new from a dealer for less than that...with that budget, I would get a twin Rotax!:patriot:

Even brand new 2008 are about $25000 or so...

I called around and there are some dealers with 2008 Utopia 205 willing to sell them for $25000...you should be able to get them to deal....:reddevil:

240 Vs 250

I think you guys forget I'm in canada. My budget is $22000.00 CDN. with the exchange that means somwhere around $17500.00 US.

As mentioned before there are alot for sale in the states. The majority are at least 2 to 3 days drive 1 way for me. The other issue is buying site unseen! Not the best way to buy when looking for used. You never know what you're gonna get.

It's too far to take a chance. Then there's the issue of border crossing. Is there duty to pay?? What is the tax burden?

With that being said, I'd still like more advice as to which engine is the better. Thanks for your reply Rookie101. Also what about fuel consumption??

Oh Canada!!

Sorry New Guy,

I didn't even see that...but I bought my 2007 for $18000...surely there are 2006 out there for around $16-17000...

It's all the Wisconsin beer and cheese!

Just giving the New Guy just a view as to what is out there. Those are asking price and you can always get them delivered.....

But thanks for stating the obvious!!

All you pay is tax when you bring a boat across the border. With the potential to save thousands, make sure you check out some listings in the northern States. I drove 11 hours each way to pick my boat up, and it saved me about 6000.00 over buying the same one locally.

The only thing with the border is they like to have about three days notice when you bring any sort of vehicle across. I drove to California to help my brother pick up his first boat (30hr each way)and it was no problem at all. We just called the border before we left, and the lady on the phone told us she would leave all the paper work at the border for us on the way down (had to stop and go to the Canadian side first). On the way back with the boat we filled all the paper work out and it was literally a five minuet stop.

And for you American folks, a 06 up here would still be 25-32,000. Heck I would still ask 22,000 for my 05. I just looked at a 09 on the weekend and the out the door price with their rock bottom price was 43,894 for the 310hp Utopia with no tower.:ack:

Aaron,

Not only did you save big bucks you turned it into a vacation. My kids will always remeber when we picked up our Utopia in North Carolina and how cold it was that trip! Great memories.

Hey Rookie 101,Good to know you've experienced cross border purchase. Your Cnd prices are dead on. That's why I'm looking for an 05 SE. Budget!!

I haven't ignored the idea of traveling to buy, I'm willing, I'm just trying to stay as close as possible.
