2001 GTI issues

ok first off i have a 2001 gti that i recently purchased.. i was unable to ride it before buying, but it cranks right up on first turn. i noticed a very small amount of oil and water in the hull when i got it home.. i cleaned it out and it hasnt seemed to return.. heres the first problem, it smokes at startup, the guy told me it hasnt been run this year, the tags went out july 08.. he said it would clear up after i ran it for a while... so i hooked the hose up and let it run for about 5-6 mins, ran real smooth at first then it died, probably because it was leaning foward on trailer.. i turned off water immediately and tried to re crank it, got nothing.. sit the trailer up level pulled and put back kill switch and it cranked... so i let it run abnout 15 more seconds then cut it off... then i noticed water in hull about an inch or so deep.... is this normal? i didnt have drain plugs out while hose was hooked up.... also my fuel gauge dosent work.... someone give me some insight on this as im new to pwc's.. thanks

was the hose leaking around the fitting when you had the water hooked up that would explane the water in the hull...as for the smoke will go away if its burning out the fogging oil. try putting fresh gas and toping it off with some seafoam to clean the carbs they might need a good cleaning.

the hose fitting is on the outside of my hull, right next to the jet.. and yes it was slightly leaking but it shouldnt have been able to get into the hull from there... what is the purpose of the fogging oil? how long does it take to burn it out? when i stick my finger inside the exhaust pipe i get like wet oil or siut on my hand... water came out of the little hole on the back by the rope mooring when i had the hose hooked up.. i didnt notice any leaks from any hoses while it was running with hose.. water came out of jet, intake grate, and flushing hole.... any ideas? also my fuel gauge isnt working, is there a fuse that could be blown to the gauges? my oil light comes on for about 2 sec when lanyard is first inserted and i get two beeps...
