To make a long story short I bought a 2000 Challenger Twin Engine. It came with the trailer, boat,Bimini top, two covers and a whole bunch of other stuff. I paid $1,600 for it. I compression checked the boat before I made an offer. It needs new foam in a few places and new upholstery

One engine has 150-155 compression on both cylinders and will fire up and run fine.

The second engine has 80psi and 110psi. It will not crank of course.

Today I tore the top end off the bad engine. Here are the results....... The top edges of the piston all the way around are badly pitted and busted off in random chunks. One cylinder wall is smooth and shines but the other is dark and black/brown and scraped on one side. I believe a rebuilt engine from SBT is in order

I tried to post pictures but they are too big and I'm on my mobile device

What are you guys opinions on the deal and input thanks

Also where can I find new center floor and forward compartment handles/latches/hinges? The little round ones

I would hit up Minnetonka4me he can prob help you out with parts and has very fair prices.
As far as your deal goes 1,600 for a 2000 year boat is pretty good your probably looking at putting another 1,500 or more into it when everything is said and done and if you do the work yourself you will deffently save some coin. I paid 2,500 for a 95 speedster and put 2,000 or more into it so I think you did ok but I havnt seen any pics so I can't realy make that call. That engine you explained with the bad compression is deffently toast so a full rebuild will be needed. Good luck to you it's actualy a realy fun hobbie when money permits!

I has seadoo speedster 98 I think it very much the same challenge. I have a lot of experienced about 2 stroke seen I have my boat 17 years ago. here is my recommend
1. Check the spakplug make sure use the right spakplug ( NGK BR8ES ) for caburator Not for DI.
2. Check you oil injected make sure the it right I think for 787cc engine is 0.71 - 0.87 ml per port at 1500 rpm in 30 second.
3. Check your caburator. I'm recommend buy rebuilt kit and do it yourself.
4. And this is my big recommend Don't try to save $$$ and give to any once rebuilt your engine! !!!!!!
Think about this, the cost to rebuilt 1 engine around $2000-$2500 !!!!. You can buy 2 premium rebuilt engines from SBT it come with 2 years warranty only $2800 they ship it to your house in 10 days.
I been waste a lot $$$$ to learn my experience if you need more help email me at ( cuongdam0806@yahoo.com )
I'm more than happy to help ; -)
Good luck

Why replace the second engine if it has 155-160 psi compression and cranks and runs? I don't plan on taking the good one apart till it breaks. I will still clean the carbs and regular maintenance

Because you have 1 new and old engine the out put power will not the same that mean you make the new engine work harder and very soon the old engine will break and than you replace another new engine! Now your new engine it becomes to old engine! You repeat the same thing again. just like a car tiers you replace 2 new tires and will replace the other 2 very soon . I did the way you thinking now end up never happy with the way the boat run. that's why I just replace 2 new engines on my boat now I'm very happy with it. when you start to do the job let me if you need help

Thank you all for the advice. I found a low hours reman engine at a local whiz shop who has been in business 25 years. He has personally been thru the engine and it's like new. For $1,200 out the door he will install the new engine and rebuild both sets of carbs and tune both engines. I just happened to catch him at the right time. I will be dropping my boat off next week and have it back the same day. He said he's happy to help and doesn't mind educating people. I think it's going to work out great!

Also after further inspection I took the air cleaner bolts off the second engine just to see underneath it. They were lock tite in place. I also saw an inspection sticker. I am going to find the rebuild sticker and see the history on the engine, it is a new/reman/. It's not the original motor so I view that as a plus!!

Ok that good. and ask him to check the rave value on the old engine make sure it run up and down freely. good luck and welcome to twin 2 stroke team.
