Hello boat fans
I’m Marcus from Busan South Korea.
As Marcus is not a typical Korean name you can guess - I’m a guest in this country, originally I’m made in Germany.
OK why I’m here…. I’m actually a RIB boat man (Tornado with Mercury 60 HP bigfot) and I’m looking for a small, nice boat -> with a little better seat position for my passenger and myself.
And in addition, I love the wakeboard and I like to practice this with more comfort within the next years.
I tried a 2008 180 challenger recently and the boat was OK for me, except of the noise.
Sorry, but that’s a no go.
I still have to the opportunity to get the 180, but I’m really afraid whether I can do anything about the noise or whether it remains as it is and I’ll end up desperate, boating with ear plugs…
Any serious advice?
// see you at sea // Marcus

Hi Marcus and welcome to the SeaDoo forum. I'm not really a SeaDoo boat guy, I own a Bayliner, if the 180 Challenger was too noisy I really don't know what to tell you, I doubt that other SeaDoo 4-tec's are any quieter. You might want to find an older Mercury powered SeaDoo or look at a new Scarab.

Any this will at least serve as a bump and one of the 4-tec boat guys can help.

Lou

I own two skis. The 155 engine is MUCH louder than my 255 that is Super Charged (SC). I am always shocked and the noise difference between them. Maybe look for a Seadoo boat that has a SC to see if they are quieter.

Nothing's quieter than a sterndrive Mercruiser by a long shot, aside from a v-drive, and they're inherently more fuel efficient than any jet boat water pump configuration. If your water is shallow though, a jet drive will run circles around a stern drive.

You won't be able to quiet that 180 jet boat.

Hi Luo
Thanks for your feedback and advice.
I’ll keep looking for the right vehicle and I think I’ll keep you posted
\thanks again // KR Marcus

Hi CJ,
also thanks for your comment
i checked out about the SC and if i will see any good offer which meets with my cursing style... who knows... / thanks M.

hi Sportster,
you know that was my real intention.
I thought about the boat and as the size and style fulfills my needs, I was considering to get it and to spend some days with special reinforcements to reduce the sound and vibrations to the hull.
But mainly, as of today… I got the statement “this will not workout well”.

Anyway, time will bring me the right boat -> I’m sure

Thanks and KR Marcus

Welcome the the best Seadoo site on the planet!

Its interesting that the non SC boats are louder than the SC boats...now Ill have to listen this summer.

When you brought up rib boats I thought for sure this was going to be an Explorer thread. Did you know Seadoo made a rib boat?

This is one me and a buddy fixed up and sold a few years back. In the 13-14 years Ive been a seadoo guy I've never seen one in better shape!

i had a 2009 510hp 230 challenger, had to make it very quiet for the swiss lakes where i ride. Not a big deal, just foam foam foam.

Boat is now very quiet. the water against the hull is louder then the engines.

hi patrick
that sounds really interesting
i almost gave up the idea and you make it sound so easy
good
can i ask you for a picture of the engine room??
i like to get some inspiration
thanks and KR Marcus

hi, sorry- no pics. i sold the boat last year and got a 2012 230 SP.

i just used marine rated foam, 30mm thick. the stuff with the silver foil on it. i used some 3m silkon for sticking... holds like a bomb

the most Sound came from the open chanels in the hull, left and right to the front. so i made a block-off plate and also got some foam on it.

i have NO idea how a 180 look like inside...

if you type my username in the search under the modify section in the boat forum you will see my boat, also the "old" 203 se

have fun patrick

Thanks again Patrick
I’m more and more encouraged to take the risk, get the boat and work on the noise protection… maybe I do
Haaa… life requires soooo many decision :)
Anyway thanks for the statement again have a good day KR Marcus

I bet those 215's are quieter due to Seadoo's "Deseabell" exhaust system. Supposedly, it makes them a lot more quiet. I own an 03 supercharged GTX and it's LOUD AS HELL. I kinda like the low muscular tone, but sometimes wish it were not there. I'm pretty sure many of the newer boats have it, see if that Challenger had it equipped. If not, maybe you could test out a boat that does have it and avoid having to do it yourself.
