I have a 1996 Challenger with the 787 motor. The last couple times I've taken it out the engine seemed to bog at high RPM's, and would max out at about 6100. I read up on the forum and decided to clean the rave valves, as they had not been cleaned since I bought it 5 years ago. I was pleasantly surprised to see that although the valves hadn't been cleaned for some time, the valve weren't really very dirty. But I got them cleaned up and rebuilt them with new parts. Took the boat out on the lake today and noticed immediately that the engine was running much better particularly at higher rpm. But the engine is still only turning 6600 rpm's. I think that I may have an issue with the pump, as it seems to be cavitating. But I believe I should be able to turn more rpm's at full throttle. Any recommendations as to where I might look next. I have not had the carb's rebuilt.
