Need an exhaust hose for a 97 gsx and why does it keep blowing off?

So, before I cleaned the carbs and replaced all the fuel lines it started and ran fine, now its gone to crap! Really hard to start fires for a second and quits with a backfire thru exhaust and puffs of white smoke!! The hose is blown, melted almost thru and the port thru the hull is melted!!.. Really aggravated

Which exhaust hose is blown, the one from the exhaust pipe to the water box or the one from the water box to the exhaust outlet?

Check the cooling hose and especially the fitting part no. 9, and the exhaust outlet, these sometimes get plugged up and doesn't provide cooling water to the exhaust fitting.

I would go back through the carbs. also check the pop off, and make sure you have all the fuel lines connected and no air leaks. Did you clean or replace the fuel selector valve?

The hose from the water box to the exhaust port, also wires from speedo were against the water box and it has melted them as well , I guess I'll go back into the carbs as you have suggested, also getting 12 volt low indicator even after coming off the trickle charger bad battery I presume but this shouldn't cause any of the afore mention issues as it turns over and fires good?! Thoughts?

I had to read this over to make sure it wasn't one of my old posts. I had exactly the same problem with exactly the same machine.

It turned out that the rave valve on the water box had come unscrewed and stopped letting water in to cool the exhaust from there back. It destroyed the larger exhaust hose (goes up and over to the rear hull fitting and makes a really funny balloon when it's internally delaminated) and melted the hull exhaust fitting. It took me a ridiculous amount of time before I accidentally noticed the balloon impression the exhaust hose was doing.

I had to replace the hull exhaust fitting (wait until you see how melted yours will be) as well as find universal marine exhaust hose to replace the stock one as it's discontinued. One word of caution, the hose capable of bending as tightly as you need will most likely be the heavy wire reinforced type. It can make it a real son-of-a to get the battery in and out. I'm planning on actually making a little harness for the battery as it's a bugger to pick up under the best conditions.

I got my parts from minnetonka4me (super awesome guy who really goes above and beyond) and wouldn't you know it, no more sink do. There were a few times I thought I had the exhaust popping off issue fixed but the additional pressure of sinking deeper with a passenger and some full throttle would blast it off. Putting a new to me hull fitting on totally fixed my issue. I took the easy way out removing mine and broke the outside flange off rather than screw with the internal giant plastic nut. I wish i could remember how I got the internal nut on, but I suspect I did it with a variety of water pump pliers and a cacophony of swearing.

It's amazing how quickly a seadoo can sink when it has a huge hole in the stern. Also incredibly exciting when you do it on a river for the first time and have smoke (exhaust it turns out) pouring out under the seat and you're taking on water like it's going out of style. Earned my machine the nick name sink-do.
